Two teams trying to work their way into the WNBA playoff picture collide on Friday night when the Los Angeles Sparks visit the Chicago Sky.

Chicago, coming off a win over the Storm, gets the nod as the -1.5-point home favorite.

My Sparks vs. Sky predictions and WNBA picks for July 17 will stick with the overall trend of Chicago dominating this head-to-head.

Sparks vs Sky prediction

Sparks vs Sky best bet: Sky -1.5 (+100)

The Chicago Sky offense has caught fire at home, averaging 102.8 points over its last five games

It’s a timely trend against an Los Angeles Sparks defense allowing a league-worst 93.7 points per game, and 98.5 through two losses to start a four-game road trip.

The Sky also could get leading scorer and rebounder Kamilla Cardoso back from a knee injury, adding another offensive boost after a win over Seattle.

While the Sparks remain one of the league's better offensive teams, their defensive issues are hard to ignore.

I'd back Chicago up to -3.5.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Sydney Taylor is one of four rookies with more than 100 field goals made this season, averaging 13.0 points and scoring in double figures in 11 of her last 12 outings.

Sparks vs Sky same-game parlay

It’s a generous line for Cardoso’s return, and a gettable one for sure. She’s gone for 15+ points in six of her previous nine outings.

Cardoso also had 15 in Chicago's lone matchup with L.A. this year, and has hit the Over in each of the last two head-to-heads.

Rae Burrell is on a scoring binge, most recently tying her season-high with 24 points in a loss to the Lynx.

Burrell has scored at least 16 points in four straight games and seven of the last nine. I like the trend to continue.
