Sky vs Liberty Predictions, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s WNBA Game

New York hasn't been going easy on overmatched opponents, and we don't expect that to change against Chicago.

The New York Liberty are one of the two best teams in the WNBA, a win away from matching the 9-0 record of the Minnesota Lynx. Meanwhile, the Chicago Sky are one of the three worst teams in the WNBA, a win ahead of the Dallas Wings to stay out of the absolute bottom of the standings.

And somehow, those descriptions do not properly illustrate the gap between these two teams. My Sky vs. Liberty predictions will risk a hefty spread, because that is how much better New York is, as absurd as it may seem.

Sky vs Liberty predictions

My Sky vs Liberty best bet: Liberty -17 (-112 at DraftKings)

A spread this large would normally scare off yours truly. A backdoor cover would seem likely, if nothing else.

If the New York Liberty are up 20 points late, they assuredly will ease up. But that should not matter. The gap between these two is that massive.

Consider net ratings. New York leads the WNBA at +23.3, suggesting the Liberty outscore their opponents by 23.3 points per 100 possessions. Meanwhile, the Chicago Sky sit at No. 12 (-16.2).

Yes, the chasm between these two may be as wide as 40 points per 100 possessions.

New York has not been going easy on overmatched opponents. Of its eight wins, four have come by more than 20 points, including one in Chicago in the second game of the year, a 25-point win.

And opponents have not been going easy on the overmatched Sky. Of their five losses, three have been by 25 points or more.

The Liberty likely will be without Jonquel Jones, and she does seem to relish facing the Sky, but she alone should not cause any consternation when the mismatch is this wide.

A spread this ambitious is not a frequent “Best Bet,” but it should be tonight. New York is on a mission, one that it seems only Minnesota can impede.

Chicago will be collateral damage.

Sky vs Liberty same-game parlay (SGP)

Liberty -17

Angel Reese Over 11.5 rebounds

Angel Reese 10+ points

Jonquel Jones tends to dominate Angel Reese. Then again, Jones dominates most post players in the WNBA. But as Jones battles an ankle injury, it would be foolish for her to play tonight. New York will not need her to notch this win.

In Jones’s absence, Reese should crash the glass with success. She has snagged at least 12 rebounds in five of seven games this season. No matter what foolish yelling on the internet might claim, Reese is an outright elite rebounder.

With Jones not stymying her, Reese should thrive. Some of those boards will be offensive, helping Reese reach double digits for the fifth time in eight games.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
