The Washington Mystics visit the Atlanta Dream for their second meeting in five days tonight.

Atlanta handled Washington on June 15 with a crushing 89-56 win, but have since lost to the New York Liberty. The Mystics got a win in Chicago before returning to Atlanta but are still a 7-point road underdog in the WNBA odds.

Our Mystics vs. Dream predictions and WNBA picks have this one coming in Under the total.

Mystics vs Dream predictions

My Mystics vs Dream best bet: Under 158.5 (-112 at FanDuel)

It’s been a rough go for the Washington Mystics early in the season, as they’re two games under .500 at 5-7.

They’re looking to string together back-to-back wins for the first time since the start of the season, when they knocked off the Atlanta Dream and Connecticut Sun. Washington bounced back nicely from a recent 33-point drubbing in Atlanta to win in Chicago 79-72.

The Mystics have struggled scoring the ball, ranking 10th in the W at 77.6 points per game. Their low output has contributed to the Under cashing in eight of their last 10.

Atlanta currently sits alone in fourth in the league at 8-4, just a couple of games off the pace of Minnesota, New York, and Phoenix, who are all at double-digit wins

They failed their first big test against any of those heavy hitters this year, dropping an 86-81 decision to the Liberty last time out, getting outscored 26-13 in the final frame.

Despite the loss, Atlanta has been getting it done on both sides of the ball, averaging 84.3 points per game and allowing 76.5 ppg, both Top 3 ranks in the W.

Washington is seventh in defensive scoring (79.6), but they do rank inside the Top 3 in field goal defense (40.9%) and 3-point defense (30.4%).

These teams have alternated wins in four straight games, and that Atlanta blowout serves as an outlier, as the point differential in the previous nine matchups was seven points or less seven times.

As both teams can handle themselves on defense, it explains why the Under has cashed in seven of the last eight head-to-head meetings — and why I'm taking it again.

Mystics vs Dream same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 158.5

Allisha Gray Over 17.5 points

Brittney Sykes Under 18.5 points

I'm targeting each team’s leading scorer in my SGP.

Allisha Gray lit the Mystics on fire the last time they played, going for a career-best 32 points on 10-for-14 shooting, including 6-for-9 from 3-point range.

She also went for 25 in the first game of the season, so Gray has found something in that defense that is exploitable.

Brittney Sykes is coming off her best scoring game of the season, dropping 32 on Chicago on 13-for-24 shooting, a nice bounce back from nine-point outing on 2-for-10 shooting the previous game against Atlanta.

It’s been feast or famine for Sykes in June, going for 20 or points in three games, but single-digit games in between each effort. I don’t think she’s held Under 10 Friday, but she’s shooting just 37.9% on the year, and I think this recent run of inconsistency continues against the Dream.
