Struggling featherweights in desperate need of a win throw down when Christian Rodriguez and Hyder Amil meet up in on tonight's UFC Fight Night card in Las Vegas.
UFC odds have Rodriguez as a -210 favorite, and although I think this will end up being a close fight that goes to the scorecards, I am siding with him in my Hyder Amil vs. Christian Rodriguez predictions and free betting picks for June 20.
Hyder Amil vs Christian Rodriguez fight prediction: Rodriguez moneyline (-210)
Christian Rodriguez looked like a legit prospect killer early in his UFC run after beating four undefeated fighters who combined for a 35-0 record. Weight-cutting issues forced him to move up to 145 pounds, where he now sports just a 2-4 record.
This matchup versus Hyder Amil allows Rodriguez to get back in the win column, but he’ll have to rely on his wrestling advantage to exploit the biggest flaw in his opponent's game.
Amil’s biggest issue is his shaky takedown defense. In his most recent outing, he was taken down seven times on eight attempts and gave up nearly nine minutes of control time against Jamall Emmers. Expect Rodriguez to take a similar approach and lean heavily on his offensive wrestling to control the pace en route to a decision victory.
I don’t love this Rodriguez moneyline at the current -210 price tag, so I wouldn’t advise getting too involved if it gets any higher.

Hyder Amil vs Christian Rodriguez best bet: Fight to go the distance (-135)
This fight has “goes the distance” written all over it.
Rodriguez is primarily a grappler, but seven of his last nine overall fights have gone to decision. Amil has never been submitted, so this leaves his most likely path of victory to just ground his man with repeated takedowns and kill the clock.
The flip side to that is that Amil is primarily a striker, taking on an opponent in Rodriguez who has never been knocked out.
Both men are durable competitors who are more than capable of handling what the other man throws their way. I still expect it to be a fun scrap, as are most fights featuring these two, but it’s ultimately headed to the scorecards.
The “fight to go the distance” prop at -135 looks mighty fine to me, and I would be willing to play it as high as -175.
