Andrew Luck looks to build upon a phenomenal rookie season when he leads the host Indianapolis Colts into the season opener against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. Luck registered the most passing yards by a rookie in NFL history last year with 4,374 and his 11 victories were the most by a rookie quarterback who was drafted first overall in the Super Bowl era. The Stanford product's solid play helped Indianapolis rebound from a 2-14 record in 2011 and increases the expectations entering 2013.
While Luck has solidified the quarterback position in Indianapolis, it remains a question mark for Oakland, which has not had a winning season since 2002. The athletic but unproven Terrelle Pryor has reportedly won the preseason competition with Matt Flynn and is poised to establish himself for a squad that ranked 26th in the NFL in scoring last year. Pryor threw for 150 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 49 yards and a score in Week 17 last season in his only career start.

ABOUT THE RAIDERS (2012: 4-12, third AFC West): Dennis Allen returns for his second season as head coach in Oakland. His squad went 1-3 during the preseason but showed some life in the all-important third game, nearly erasing a 27-point deficit behind Pryor. Running back Darren McFadden, looking to rebound after a pair of injury-plagued campaigns, was bothered by a shoulder injury during the preseason but has returned to practice. After seven years in Green Bay, safety Charles Woodson returns to Oakland, where he played his first eight seasons.
ABOUT THE COLTS (2012: 11-5, second AFC South): Luck was 7-1 at home in 2012, winning the last six. Seven of the eight home contests were decided by a touchdown or less, giving Luck plenty of time to display his abilities in the clutch. His seven game-winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime are tied for the most by a starting QB since at least 1970. Luck's favorite target again figures to be 13-year standout Reggie Wayne, who amassed 106 catches and 1,355 yards last season.
EXTRA POINTS
1. The Colts play just one division game in their first seven contests.
2. The Raiders are 10-2 when McFadden rushes for 100-plus yards.
3. Oakland leads the all-time series 7-5 but Indianapolis has won the last three meetings.
PREDICTION: Colts 26, Raiders 17
