Last Meeting ( Sep 30, 2006 ) Maine 0, Boston College 22

Boston College ended an otherwise down year with a win at Miami last November. It began what Eagles fans hoped would be a turnaround campaign with a loss to Miami at home last Saturday. Boston College will take a step down in competition in pursuit of its first win of the 2012 season when it hosts FCS opponent Maine on Saturday at Alumni Stadium. The Eagles produced 542 yards of total offense against the Hurricanes but three turnovers and some shoddy defense sent BC to its second straight season-opening loss. Boston College has won the last three matchups with Maine by a combined score of 120-0. However, those matchups came in 1929, 1967 and 2006.

ABOUT MAINE (2011: 9-4, 6-2 Colonial Athletic Association): The Black Bears' 2011 season ended with a loss to Georgia Southern in the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs last December. Junior Marcus Wasilewski will take over at quarterback. He has played only four games in his college career, completing one pass in 2010 and another in 2011. Coach Jack Cosgrove is entering his 20th season at the helm.

ABOUT BOSTON COLLEGE (0-1, 0-1 ACC):
Quarterback Chase Rettig was the unquestioned star in the loss to Miami. The junior set career highs in completions (32) and yards (441) and had two touchdowns, connecting 10 times for 149 yards with junior Alex Amidon. Sophomore running back Tahj Kimble had eight catches for 130 yards and a score. Junior linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis had a team-high 14 tackles, eight of which were solo jobs.

EXTRA POINTS

1. This marks the 1,000th game in Maine football history.

2. The Eagles are only 4-8 in their last 12 home games.

3. Rettig's 441 passing yards against Miami ranks sixth in school history and is the most in a game for a BC quarterback since Glenn Foley threw for 448 yards against Virginia Tech in 1993.

PREDICTION: Boston College 33, Maine 3.
