STILLWATER, Okla. -- Guard Landry Shamet scored 23 of his career-high 30 points in the second half on Saturday, lifting No. 6 Wichita State past Oklahoma State 78-66 at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

In a series that dates back 83 years, Wichita State won in Stillwater for the first time since 1957 and emerged victorious for only the third time in 18 tries at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The Cowboys also won in Wichita last year, routing the Shockers 93-76. This time, Wichita State scored the road win, prevailing in a defensive clash that involved a combined 34 turnovers, including 19 by the Shockers, matching a high during the Gregg Marshall coaching era.

Shamet fueled Wichita State (8-1), scoring the first 10 points of the second half for the Shockers and consistently providing big shots the rest of the way. Guard Conner Frankamp added 14 and forward Darral Willis Jr. had 12 for Wichita State.

Guard Tavarius Shine led the Cowboys (7-2) with 20 points, while forward Mitchell Solomon added 17 points and eight rebounds.

Wichita State may have played its worst half of this season yet still led 26-23 at intermission, taking its first lead since the opening minutes when Shamet fired in a 3-pointer with five seconds remaining.

The Shockers committed 12 turnovers and shot just 36.4 percent (8-of-22) from the floor through the first 20 minutes. And they still hadn't reached double-digit points inside the 7-minute mark, facing their biggest deficit at 17-9 with 6:09 remaining.

Oklahoma State, however, labored through similar offensive struggles.

The Cowboys shot 31.8 percent (7-of-22), turned the ball over 11 times in the half and scored but nine points over the final 9 1/2 minutes.

Shamet and Frankamp represented most of Wichita State's first-half offense with seven points each. Shine led the Cowboys with nine points.

NOTES: Wichita State senior C Shaq Morris once starred just down the road from Stillwater, playing at Edmond Memorial High School in Edmond, Okla., a suburb of Oklahoma City. ... Cowboys F Mitchell Solomon carried a streak of 15 consecutive made field goals into Saturday's game. He made his first two shots against the Shockers, before missing on a 3-pointer in the first half. Solomon finished 6-of-9 from the floor. ... Shockers F Markis McDuffie still hasn't played this season while recovering from a stress fracture in his left foot. But McDuffie may be targeting a Dec. 22 return, at home against Florida Gulf Coast, per an Instagram post he made suggesting he'd be back in two weeks.
