The United States Men’s National Team continues preparations for the 2026 World Cup when they host Australia in an international friendly on Tuesday night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men fought back for a draw against a tough Ecuadorian side on Friday night, with Christian Pulisic coming off the bench. Now they take on another difficult opponent, with the Socceroos in fine form as they continue their preparations for the tournament having already qualified.

Find out why I’m going against the odds in my USA vs. Australia predictions and free betting picks for Tuesday, October 14.

My USA vs Australia best bet: Australia double chance (+100 at Sports Interaction)

After falling behind early to Ecuador, the Americans put in one of their best performances under Pochettino as they fought back for a 1-1 draw. The Yanks had the majority of possession and outshot Ecuador 11-8, while completing over twice as many passes. The new setup with three centre-backs once again looked like their best way of getting results.

However, there were still concerns. It starts with the fact that they created just one chance in the match. Granted, they scored from it, but it showed the difficulties this side has without Christian Pulisic on the pitch. Secondly, there are still some issues with bad turnovers in midfield, putting the defenders in a bad spot.

That’s why I believe the market has overcorrected a bit, with the Americans heavily favored against the Socceroos. Australia is the 25th-ranked team in the world, and they’ve yet to suffer defeat since Tony Popovic was appointed as manager in September.

During that 12-match span, they’ve claimed eight victories — including each of their last seven. They defeated Canada 1-0 at the weekend, despite having just one shot on target and being outshot 17-5 on the night.

Opponents have scored just three goals during this seven-match winning streak, as they utilize a 5-4-1 setup that frustrates opponents. Despite having few recognizable names, they work hard as a unit and find a way to get results.

Both teams have qualified for the World Cup and will want to get a result to test themselves. With Pulisic’s status in the air, there’s value in taking the visitors to get a result at even money.

Australia double chance

First-half result: Draw

Australia team total Over 0.5

Under Popovic, the Aussies tend to sit back for the first half of matches and deflect everything their opponents throw at them, and then hit back after the break and find a way to win. And if they do concede early, they quickly look to get the goal back and then revert to their setup.

That’s why four of Australia’s last five matches have been level at halftime. With Pulisic likely not to start the match, I expect we’ll see a similar situation as the Americans struggle to break through before the intermission.

I don’t see the Socceroos being kept off the scoresheet, however. The USMNT has kept just one clean sheet in its last seven outings, while Australia has gone eight straight without being held scoreless.
