Middlesbrough’s fast start to the season has the club dreaming of a return to the Premier League, and they’ll try to protect their unbeaten home league record on Saturday against Wrexham.

The visiting Red Dragons know a thing or two about promotions, but my Middlesbrough vs. Wrexham predictions favor a surging Boro team that’s only conceded seven Championship goals this term.

EFL Championship predictions for Middlesbrough vs. Wrexham

My Middlesbrough vs. Wrexham best bet: Middlesbrough moneyline (-128 at Sports Interaction)

For a team sitting second in the Championship, Middlesbrough’s strong first few months have included a surprising number of nail-biters, but they’ve shown the ability to win in different ways.

Boro did just enough to grind out a 1-0 victory in midweek against Sheffield Wednesday — the sixth time this year that they’ve walked away with a win by a one-goal margin — and I’m going back to the well by picking the hosts to grab all three points on Saturday.

With just 15 goals in 11 Championship outings so far, Middlesbrough aren’t likely to blow the visitors away here, but they’re rock solid defensively, and it’s hard to pick holes in their 7-3-1 record in the league.

That’s more consistency than we’ve seen from big-spending Wrexham, who are coming off a much-needed win over Oxford United on Wednesday. The Red Dragons were frustrated in a 1-0 loss at Stoke in their last road outing, and there’s still work to do before Phil Parkinson will feel the pressure ease.

There could be some tired legs here, with the teams playing their third fixture of the week, but Rob Edwards’ Boro squad can match Wrexham’s attacking depth, and home advantage could be the clincher this weekend.

Middlesbrough vs. Wrexham same-game parlay (SGP)

Middlesbrough moneyline

BTTS — Yes

Morgan Whittaker anytime goal

Wrexham have scored in 10 of their 11 Championship contests this season, so it might be a stretch for Middlesbrough to keep a clean sheet here, especially with the options available to Parkinson off the bench. Instead, I’ll take the BTTS prop and wager on the Red Dragons creating enough chances to make Boro sweat.

Morgan Whittaker has scored in the hosts’ last two matches, and his anytime scorer prop is the last leg of my SGP. Whittaker is a constant threat from the right wing, and this is a nice matchup against a Wrexham defense that’s conceded 16 league goals already this year.
