It’s last chance dance time on the PGA Tour as the Wyndham Championship is the final event of the 2020-2021 season before the FedExCup Playoffs.

Sedgefield Country Club will host the 156-player field which features an interesting mix of golfers. Some are trying to sneak into the playoffs and secure their tour cards for next season while others are here for the paycheck.

Webb Simpson is the favorite at +1,000 but is there is always betting value down the board in a tournament like this.

We give our golf picks, predictions, and best bets for the Wyndham Championship (August 12-15).

Wyndham Championship betting stats that matter

Sedgefield Country Club is a par 70 coming in at 7,127 yards, which isn’t exceedingly long and features fast-rolling Bermudagrass greens. The greens are large by PGA Tour standards — but if you miss the fairways and greens, it can be tough to make pars.

That said, you need to score to have success here, with the winning score in each of the last four tournaments topping 20-under par.

The course is not the longest on Tour by any means, and the straightforward fairways definitely make this a second-shot course.  So, that means the No. 1 thing bettors should look at is strokes gained: approach. If you aren’t hitting your greens in regulation, you will be at a disadvantage considering the large greens and the tough play surrounding them.

A couple of players in the field who are among the best on tour when it comes to SG: approach are Hideki Matsuyama (+1,400) and Will Zalatoris (+2,800).

More stats to consider are driving accuracy, because while the fairways can be easy to his, missing will be costly, and strokes gained: putting.

Wyndham Championship outright winner bets

Who will win the Wyndham Championship? Here are our best picks:

Sungjae Im (+3,000)

Im followed up a solid performance at the Olympics with a ho-hum T46 at WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, but he has all the tools — and some solid betting value — to have success in North Carolina this week.

This season has not been everything the South Korean has hoped for, but he could be building towards something as the playoffs loom near and his game is arguably the most balanced of anyone in the field.

Im ranks 76th in SG: approach but is a better ball striker than that. And he ranks 14th in driving accuracy and 17th in SG: off the tee. Im is also coming off a bit of a rough putting performance in Memphis, but that dropped him to 44th on Tour in SG: putting and he normally performs well on Bermudagrass greens.

Then there is course history: Im has two starts at the Wyndham Championship and finished in the Top 10 twice with a 66-scoring average. This is the type of course he can dominate — and he stands out at these odds.

Seamus Power (+4,500)

Power has put his feet up since a breakthrough victory Barbasol Championship four weeks ago, but the Irishman is having a fantastic season. Power has four Top-10 finishes this season and has a Top 20 result in each of his last six starts.

Power has found success thanks to his elite ball-striking, ranking 27th in SG: approach. He also ranks 73rd in SG: putting but ranks second in par-4 scoring average on Tour and with just two Par 5’s on this course, that should come into play.

He also proved he can put together low rounds, winning the Barbasol with a score of 22-under-par. And while he hasn’t had a ton of success at Sedgefield, this will be his fifth start here... and he finished 27th last year.

Rickie Fowler (+5,500)

I know I shouldn’t do it but I just can’t say no to Rickie Fowler at this price... even though he is likely to disappoint. Fowler has never missed the FedExCup playoffs in his career and right now he is on the outside looking in with a ranking of 130th. So, he’ll need a strong showing at Sedgefield to keep his streak alive.

While it has been a brutal year by Fowler’s standards, there have been some reasons for optimism lately. He has made the cut in five of his last six tournaments, including a T8 at the PGA Championship and a strong Final Round at the Open Championship. Fowler also held the Round 1 lead at the 3M Open before tailing off down the stretch.

Good Rickie Fowler is known for his iron play and his elite putting, two things that are needed to win at this course: a place he only has played once but finished a respectable 22nd. We’re buying into the narrative with him here — particularly at this price.

Wyndham Championship matchup predictions

Jason Kokrak over Brian Harman (-110)

Both Harman and Kokrak come into this tournament playing well, both are also excellent putters and accurate off the tee. But Kokrak is the more polished ball striker and has a big edge over Harman in SG: approach and greens in regulation.

Kokrak also has three Top 20s at Sedgefield in the last four years, while Harman has been a little more inconsistent here with two Top 10s — but five missed cuts.

Gary Woodland over Bubba Watson (-120)

Woodland is another guy who could be motivated to have a strong performance this week. He currently sits 108th in the FedExCup standings and a strong performance this week would solidify his place in the Top 125.

He has an edge over Bubba when it comes to ball-striking and has been playing better of late, finishing 11th at the 3M Open and seventh at the Barracuda Championship. Woodland’s putting has also improved and he is starting to look more like the guy who won the 2019 US Open.

Wyndham Championship prop bets

Webb Simpson Top-5 finish (+275)

You will probably hear more than once this weekend that Webb Simpson loves this course so much... that he named one of his kids after it. And he loves it for good reason: Simpson was the 2011 Champion and has six Top-6 finishes here in the last seven years. He also ticks the boxes when it comes to iron play and driving accuracy. This is a little chalky, but it is for a reason.

Make cut parlay (+205)

To make the cut parlays are one of my favorite bets to make in golf tournaments. This time around we are betting Simpson, Hideki Matsuyama, Louis Oosthuizen, Im, and Kevin Na to reach the weekend. This is pretty chalky, but these guys are among the favorites in this tournament for a reason and all five are mostly cut from the same cloth: They are all excellent ball strikers and are accurate off the tee. They are all a good bet to stick around until the later rounds.
