A pair of second-place Conference teams will meet in Madison Square Garden tonight as the Winnipeg Jets play their second game of a five-game road trip vs. the New York Rangers. 

With the Jets’ struggling to beat top-flight teams combined with New York's impressive 15-3-1 record since the All-Star break, is the home side the way to go especially with the NHL odds indicating Winnipeg as a slight favorite if this were on neutral ice?

The New York Rangers have a 2.21 GAA since the All-Star break to go with their impressive record, which is the third-best mark in hockey. The 5-on-5 metrics aren’t pretty, but betting against this team and waiting for a regression has been costly for bettors. 

Igor Shesterkin is the exact goalie who can bail out a team that bleeds chances at 5-on-5. He's allowed two or fewer goals in eight of his last 12 games and has gone 5-1 straight up with a 1.17 GAA at home over that stretch. This is becoming one of the best home-ice teams in hockey as their 9-1 SU record with a +2.0 goal differential per game since the ASB is indicating. 

Playing a team in top form has not worked out well for the Winnipeg Jets of late. 

Over the last 30 days, the Jets have gone 10-5 SU with a solid +1.00 goal differential per game, but a lot of that had been built off wins vs. non-playoff teams. Of those 15 games, just four of those have come against playoff teams with Winnipeg going 1-3 SU in those contests. That’s a much easier schedule than the Rangers have seen as they've been winning but have also played nearly half of their games vs. playoff-bound teams since the ASB.

Shesterkin has been incredible and even more so at home. The metrics aren’t favorable for New York, but winning hockey games also leads to defending more which could be masking the overall numbers. Let’s get the home side on the ML tonight at -125 and another half-unit on the -1.5 at +300.

Nine of the Rangers' last 11 wins have come by two or more goals. New York is a pick'em on neutral ice and this -125 line is implying +100 at a neutral location.

It's not a big SGP, but it's a decent one to boost the odds of the New York PL at +200. If the Rangers are covering this, it'll be because Shesterkin shutting down the Winnipeg offense that has faced some of the worst teams of late. 

The Rangers are also very deep now with the addition of Jack Roslovic who has complimented the second line very well. New York will get an early lead which may be lights out for the Jets.

• Looking at injuries, the Rangers are still without Jacob Trouba and now bottom-pairing defenseman Ryan Lindgren is out. The Jets are still without first-line winger Gabe Vilardi, while Connor Hellebuyck is projected to start in net for the Jets.
• The schedule spot favors the Jets as the Rangers are in the middle of a five-game, seven-night stretch and will be playing their sixth game nine days including travel. That looks to be priced into tonight’s line.
