Hurricanes vs Capitals Props & Best Bets for Tonight

Andrei Svechnikov has shown that he is possibly the most important piece to the Hurricanes' puzzle, and his high shot volume will come in handy again tonight against the Capitals.

Andrei Svechnikov and the Carolina Hurricanes are trying to get to their second Eastern Conference Finals in the past three years with a win in Game 5 over the Washington Capitals.

Svechnikov has been one of Carolina's best players, and my Capitals vs Hurricanes props expect him to play a big role in this potential clincher.

Find out why in my NHL picks for Thursday, May 15.

Best Hurricanes vs Capitals props

  • Hurricanes Svechnikov o2.5 SOG (-155)
  • Capitals Thompson o26.5 saves (-130)
  • Hurricanes Hall o1.5 SOG (-165)

Hurricanes vs Capitals player props for May 15

Andrei Svechnikov Over 2.5 shots on goal (-155 at Sports Interaction)

Andrei Svechnikov hasn't been as productive in this round as he was in round one, but he's potentially the most important player on this Carolina Hurricanes team. Svechnikov plays an aggressive style but also has a ton of skill, and his game translates really well to the physicality of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He's a scoring threat from everywhere in the offensive zone.

Thus far in this series, Svechnikov has had a minimum of three shots on goal in three of the four contests. In what is now the most important game of this series, he can be expected to step up even more to send his team into the Conference Finals.

Svechnikov averaged 2.50 shots per game in the regular season, but he has bumped that up to 3.00 in the playoffs.

Logan Thompson Over 26.5 saves (-130 at Sports Interaction)

Logan Thompson will need to be at his very best for the Washington Capitals to keep their season alive. That said, Thompson has faced a ton of volume in this series because the Canes offense fires pucks from everywhere. Carolina is averaging 31.8 shots per game in this series and Thompson has stopped at least 27 in three of the four games.

Throughout the playoffs, Thompson has put up the league's second-best goals saved above expected, skating to a +7.8 rating. He also boasts a .918 save percentage with a 2.45 goals-against average. Carolina has outshot Washington in every single game of this series, and just because the Capitals are going to be more desperate, it doesn't mean that will magically change.

Thompson will need his best performance of the season to try and keep Washington's hopes alive, and you can bet that he will see tons of rubber.

Taylor Hall Over 1.5 shots on goal (Odds at Sports Interaction)

Taylor Hall has been such a sneaky, incredible acquisition for the Hurricanes. He's currently tied for the team lead in points in this series with three but has the most shots on goal out of every single skater.

Hall has 12 SOG through four games and has had a minimum of three in three of those. In the most recent game, Hall had five and scored the biggest goal of the contest.

He has six points in nine games this postseason and has found great chemistry alongside Jack Roslovic and Logan Stankoven. Rod Brind'Amour also does a solid job at splitting time between the two power-play units, while Hall sees time on the second.

Hall has been excellent and should continue to play well.
