Calgary and Toronto are bleeding goals, and the total of 5.5 is much too low.

All 16 teams are in action across the NHL tonight, including an all-Canadian matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Calgary Flames.

Neither team has played up to par in their own end and has allowed lofty goal totals against, and my Flames vs. Maple Leafs predictions expect that trend to continue tonight.

Flames vs Maple Leafs prediction

Flames vs Maple Leafs Best bet: Over 5.5 (-120)

The posted total for tonight’s matchup is 5.5 goals, which seems far too low considering these teams have both struggled mightily in their own end.

The Calgary Flames are 2-7-1 on the year, ranking 25th in goals-against per game, while the Toronto Maple Leafs rank 27th, giving up 3.67 per contest. That’s a combined average of 7.17 goals allowed, which far surpasses the 5.5 mark.

Additionally, the total has hit the Over in six of the last seven matchups between the two teams, averaging 7.42 goals per game.

A big reason for that is the way the Leafs have figured out Flames starter Dustin Wolf. He allowed five goals in both meetings against Toronto last season with an .818 career SV% vs. the Buds.

Wolf has also struggled mightily in his sophomore campaign with an .886 SV% and a 3.37 GAA this season.

It’s also noteworthy that, despite Toronto's slow start, the Leafs still rank 10th in scoring, averaging 3.44 goals per game.

Flames vs Maple Leafs same-game parlay

John Tavares is sitting at 499 goals in his career, and I think he scores his 500th tonight against Calgary. He’s starting to heat up with five goals in his last six games and has 12 career goals against the Flames, including one on Wolf last season.

I’ll also add Matthew Knies to go Over 1.5 shots to my SGP. The Flames are allowing 29.7 shots per game, and Knies has hit the Over in seven of nine outings this season, averaging 2.3 shots per outing.

Flames vs Maple Leafs SGP
