Dylan Larkin career snapshot
A Michigan native, Dylan Larkin was a first-round pick of the Detroit Red Wings in 2014, and the 29-year-old center hasn’t disappointed, posting six seasons of 30+ goals, including coming off a campaign with a season-high 34.
Unfortunately for Larkin, the days of the team dominating under Nicklas Lidstrom, Henrik Zetterberg, and Pavel Datsyuk had passed before he arrived, and the three-time All-Star has been stuck in a stretch of mediocrity in the Motor City, only sniffing the playoffs in his rookie season.
General manager Steve Yzerman hasn't been nearly aggressive enough at the trade deadline in recent years, and it appears the Red Wings’ latest season of falling short of the postseason has been the straw that broke the camel’s back.
National team ties
Larkin is no stranger to having success with the US Men's National team, and his friendship with Jack Eichel presents another opportunity for the Vegas Golden Knights to land another superstar.
Meanwhile, it’s no surprise that the Minnesota Wild are +200 favorites to land Larkin, as Bill Guerin was USA GM during the Olympics and pulled off a blockbuster trade to land Quinn Hughes last season.
With Hughes and Matt Boldy already having experience bringing home gold with Larkin, he would be an incredible option to slide into the Wild’s top six and bring elite speed that would help put them over the top in the Western Conference.
It’s also worth noting that Larkin centered a line with Jack Hughes and Tage Thompson in Milan, making the New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres potential fits if either club wants to make a splash.
Dylan Larkin next team prediction
They aren’t currently listed, but I’d watch out for the Edmonton Oilers as a dark horse if they’re able to offload Darnell Nurse’s contract.
Larkin played alongside Zach Hyman at the University of Michigan, and Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl weren't mincing words about Edmonton needing to get better following their first-round elimination to Anaheim.
Only one more season separates McDavid from free agency, so it’s now or never for Edmonton.
