We're in for an Eastern Conference clash between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New Jersey Devils.

With the Leafs missing key pieces, my Devils vs. Maple Leafs predictions focus on Jake McCabe's shot-blocking ability.

Devils vs Maple Leafs prediction

Devils vs Maple Leafs best bet: Jake McCabe Over 2.5 blocks (+115)

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without a few key players in tonight’s matchup against the New Jersey Devils

They've already announced Dakota Joshua and Chris Tanev will not play, along with a game-time decision tag for Auston Matthews. This is in addition to William Nylander, who is considered day-to-day after missing the Leafs' last game on Sunday.

The Buds have already struggled to get the puck out of their own end — ranking 31st in defensive zone time this season — and now they’ll be without three players who are key to that aspect of the game.

Furthermore, I’m expecting the Leafs to spend a lot of time defending tonight, and the player I anticipate getting his name called quite often will be Jake McCabe

McCabe is averaging a career high 22:00 minutes per night, averaging 2.47 blocked shots per game.

With Tanev out, he tends to be more prone to being the go-to shot blocker on this team. He’s yet to block more than two shots since Tanev’s insertion back into the lineup three games ago, but while he was out, McCabe went Over this total 15 times, averaging 2.75 blocks per game.

Additionally, the Devils are fourth in the NHL in shot attempts this season, leaving plenty of opportunity for the Toronto defenseman to get in front of pucks to hit the Over.

Devils vs Maple Leafs same-game parlay

With the injuries to Matthews and Nylander, the spotlight will be shining bright on John Tavares to spark the Leafs' offence tonight.

Tavares is averaging 2.71 shots per game this season, and when Matthews was out of the lineup earlier in the year, the Buds pivot averaged 3.4 spg with his elevated role.

The Devils allow 3.00 goals per game, so someone is going to have to produce tonight. Why not the team's No. 1 center and member of the top PP unit — especially with the Devils having just a 57% kill rate on the PK over their last nine games?
