Monday night’s first NHL game features the Pittsburgh Penguins hosting the St. Louis Blues on NHL Network.

This matchup often results in high-scoring affairs, with six or more total goals scored in each of the past four meetings. My Blues vs. Penguins predictions expect a similar outcome this time around.

Read on for my NHL picks for Monday, October 27.

Blues vs Penguins prediction

Blues vs Penguins Best bet: Over 5.5 (-140)

Goaltender Jordan Binnington is projected to start for the St. Louis Blues, and he should serve as a solid fade candidate. Having failed to find a rhythm this season, Binnington is 2-3-1 with a .872 SV% and 3.12 GAA through his first seven outings.

Those struggles are likely to continue against the Pittsburgh Penguins, a team he has struggled mightily against. In his past six meetings with Pittsburgh, Binnington is 1-4-1 with a .890 SV% and 4.10 GAA.

Meanwhile, Tristan Jarry is slated to start across the ice.

Jarry’s strong surface-level stats this year are slightly skewed due to his 31-save shutout against the lowly San Jose Sharks. He's allowed three or more goals in each of his other three starts against stronger offenses, and the Blues are far closer to those teams than to the Sharks.

In fact, both offenses in this matchup have generated high-danger scoring chances consistently this season. Entering this outing, both teams rank in the top half of the league in expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60).

Blues vs Penguins same-game parlay

Sidney Crosby paces Pittsburgh with six goals through the first nine outings, while Pavel Buchnevich has started to round into form with a tally in each of his past two outings.

I expect both skaters to find the back of the net tonight.
