The Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs have played a very high-scoring series to date, with four of the first five games featuring seven goals or more.
We’ll be hoping for the fireworks to continue in Game 6 as we hunt for goal scorers with my May 16 NHL prop picks.
Let’s take a closer look at a few players who stand out from the pack.
NHL anytime goalscorer picks for Maple Leafs vs Panthers Game 6
Sam Reinhart (+175)
Auston Matthews (+200)
Gustav Forsling (+900)
Maple Leafs vs Panthers anytime goalscorer props for tonight
Sam Reinhart (+175 at Sports Interaction)
Sam Reinhart has generated more shooting opportunities – and good ones, at that – than anybody in the series.
He has piled up 48 shot attempts, 29 scoring chances, both of which put him well clear of anybody else on either team.
His expected goal output of 3.02 has been bested by only Matthew Knies, who has been all around the net for the Toronto Maple Leafs and benefited from multiple breakaway opportunities. Point being, Reinhart is creating a lot.
All of his shots and chances have converted into only one goal. He is one of the best finishers in the sport, and a proven playoff performer, so it’s just a matter of time before he finds the back of the net again.
Back at home, where he’s generated 9+ shot attempts in three straight, he should have plenty of opportunity to find the back of the net.
Auston Matthews (+200 at Sports Interaction)
Auston Matthews has consistently underproduced in the playoffs and the likelihood he’s dealing with a nagging injury doesn’t help matters. Even so, it’s hard not to get excited about backing Matthews at this price.
Matthews leads all Maple Leafs in shot attempts, shots on goal, scoring chances, high-danger chances, and rebound opportunities. He’s had plenty of looks around the net – he just hasn’t converted on them.
When hunting for goals, you usually want the guys who are piling up the chances; even more so when they have multiple Rocket Richards in the trophy case.
Whether Matthews is 100%, 75%, or even 50%, this is a rare price to get on a usually elite finisher who is getting so many looks around the paint.
An ugly rebound goal is just as valuable as a highlight reel snipe and Matthews is getting to areas where he should have chances to collect some loose change.
Gustav Forsling (+900 at Sports Interaction)
The Florida Panthers getting goals from their defense has been a big factor in this series. They’ve gotten a goal from five different blueliners and, funny enough, their best defenseman Gustav Forsling isn’t one of them.
It’s not for a lack of opportunity, though. Forsling has gotten involved in the attack and generated 12 scoring chances through five games.
That’s more than any other defenseman in this series. For perspective, notables like Morgan Rielly (6) and Aaron Ekblad (5) have found twine despite noticeably fewer chances.
Forsling plays a ton of minutes and he’s generating plenty of looks from the back end. He’s worth a swing at this price.
