Tulane might have a chance to get some revenge, and you can’t completely write them off, but with Ole Miss fired up to face its former head coach, it feels like the Green Wave could end up as nothing more than a ripple in the first round of the College Football Playoff.
Let's get into the nitty gritty with our Tulane vs. Mississippi predictions before kickoff comes at 3:30pm ET on Saturday, December 20.

Tulane vs Mississippi best bets
Mississippi -17.5 (-104 at FanDuel)
Back in September, Mississippi trounced Tulane, 45-10. The concerns then should continue this weekend.
The Green Wave did not find success through the air or on the ground, but they were particularly wretched when passing the ball, losing 0.24 expected points per dropback compared to losing just 0.08 points per rush attempt. The most dooming reality was springing just three explosive plays on 82 snaps.
Unfortunately for Tulane, there is no reason to expect any of that to change. The Green Wave prefer to throw the ball, dropping back 2.6% more often than an average team would in a given game state, according to CFB-graphs.com, and they do so rather well while their rushing attack is middling at best.
However, Mississippi has one of the country’s best pass defenses, ranking No. 16 in expected points added (EPA) per dropback against.
There is no reason to expect Tulane to find offensive success, and with the Rebels out to prove to the world that they are more than Lane Kiffin, not even the hook should scare you away from this spread.

Over 56.5 (-110 at FanDuel)
If Tulane is not going to score 21 points, can the Rebels be tasked with scoring more than 40?
That thought comes from the likelihood of the Green Wave failing to mount lengthy drives. Throwing against Mississippi yields short drives, as does Tulane running the ball.
The Green Wave failing quickly will produce more chances for the Rebels.
Tulane vs Mississippi TD pick
Trinidad Chambliss anytime TD (-120 at FanDuel)
Tulane’s failures should set up more Mississippi scoring opportunities, particularly since the Rebels mount scoring opportunities at the best rate in the country, turning 59.3% of possessions into quality drives, per CFB-graphs.com.
At least one of those scoring opportunities should benefit Trinidad Chambliss; the quarterback ran for at least one score in three of Mississippi’s six one-score games, accounting for five of his six rushing touchdowns this year.
Tulane vs Mississippi prop pick
Jamauri McClure Over 52.5 rushing yards (-114 at FanDuel)
Lacy won’t be the only one running in this one. If Tulane wants to have any shot in this one, they’re going to need a balanced attack.
That means getting something out of the run game in order to alleviate some of the pressure on QB Jake Retzlaf, and you can run on the Rebels a little bit. Mississippi enters the playoff ranked 66th in success rate vs. the rush and 45th in EPA per rush.
So, it looks like the Green Wave’s best bet for success is Jamauri McClure. The sophomore running back has come on strong late in the season, rushing for 406 yards over Tulane’s last four games, going for no fewer than 68 yards in each.
McClure’s rushing yard prop for this first-round playoff matchup is a modest 52.5. He looks like a great bet to go Over that number on Saturday.
