😠 Northwestern vs Michigan State: Northwestern -7.5
Who's hatin: Pat Fitzgerald
Why I'm hatin: People will see this as a revenge game, as now-Michigan State head coach Pat Fitzgerald was let go by Northwestern in 2023 following a hazing scandal within the program.
Some may also see this as a big number. I see it as Northwestern simply being a darn good team this season.
The Wildcats' most notable games include a six-point loss to Indiana as 20.5-point underdogs and a 21-point win over Penn State as 2.5-point underdogs.
This past week against Ball State, Northwestern was a 34.5-point favorite and won by 31. The Wildcats could have won by 50 if they wanted to, but they coasted.
Quarterback Aidan Chiles threw for three touchdowns and over 270 yards, while the team also put together more than 160 rushing yards.
Michigan State is coming off a tough overtime loss to Illinois this past weekend. Its best performance of the season came against Notre Dame, when the Spartans lost by just 17 points as nearly 30-point underdogs.
With Fitzgerald being a South Side Chicago guy, he undoubtedly had his boys ready for that one. Will he do the same against his alma mater and former program?
I lean toward no.
If laying 7.5 points worries you, take Northwestern's team total over or wait to see if the spread drops below the current number.
🤬 Notre Dame vs BYU: BYU +10.5
Who's hatin: Soda Lovers
Why I'm hatin: I am about to unload nothing but biased hatred that dwells inside my heart and soul for the Notre Dame football program. Ready? OK.
No program gets more flowers for doing the bare minimum every single year, playing bottom-feeders and sprinkling in one or two ranked opponents to make it seem like it's dealt with some hardships.
Notre Dame ranks in the top 15 every year because of its name and its ability to go belt-to-tailpipe on Navy and Stanford, only to lose to Northern Illinois on its own turf and still get plenty of love for running the table against nobody.
The most privileged program in college football resides in South Bend, Indiana, and this week, it takes its first true road trip.
"But bu- they played at Purdue and North Carolina,".
You mean they played in Indiana and at a basketball school? Please.
Notre Dame heads to Provo, Utah, to take on the BYU Cougars, who will be foaming at the mouth to take down the Fighting Irish. The Cougars enter Week 7 undefeated and 5-0 against the spread. This is easily the game Kalani Sitake and his boys have had circled all season long.
With a bye week looming after this game, will the Fighting Irish be fully focused, or will they already be looking ahead to a break before gearing up for their Nov. 7 matchup against Miami (FL)? Either way, I'm on the BYU Cougars.
Soak it in, Irish fans. This one is not going to be an easy one.
I am personally going to wait and see if this line gets bought up any further, but I would not take BYU below +10.
😡 Washington vs Purdue: Purdue -3.5
Who's hatin: People living in the past
Why I'm hatin: Folks, it is 2026, and the Purdue Boilermakers are starting to look like an honest football team.
They are coming off two straight wins over Illinois and Minnesota, but some may look at their three-game losing streak before that and think, well, how honest can they be?
In Week 2, the Boilermakers lost a tough overtime game to Wake Forest at home. They then flew all the way to the other side of the country to play UCLA, where they covered the +14.5-point spread, before flying back home to host Notre Dame and lose 49-10.
That's a lot of miles in a short span, and with a top-ranked opponent on the schedule, it's not exactly an easy turnaround.
Now, as for Washington, things are much worse. Who have the Huskies played? Oh, they kept it close against USC. OK, USC is 2-5 against the spread this season, with its biggest win coming last week on the road against Penn State. The Trojans have been extremely underwhelming.
Washington's three losses this season have come against Minnesota, USC, and Iowa. Its wins? Washington State, Utah State and Eastern Washington. What a resume!
With the Huskies facing a three-hour time change, this is a lengthy road trip, and I think this is a spot to back the Boilermakers to keep their winning ways alive and beat Washington by more than a field goal.
Obviously, snagging -2.5 or -3 is a dream, so if you can get either number, do it! However, I'm on -3.5, and I fully trust the Boilermakers.
