Prop bet #1: Cameron Dorner anytime TD

The North Texas Mean Green face off against the Tulane Green Wave in the American Championship on Friday night, in a game that will likely determine a berth in the College Football Playoff.

North Texas comes in as a slight favorite, which might be due to the outstanding passing attack it has used to punish opponents all year long.

Drew Mestemaker has thrown for 3,835 yards and 29 touchdowns on the season, powering the Mean Green to 46.8 ppg of scoring. That success should continue against Tulane, which is allowing opponents to complete 67.1% of their passes while giving up 251.9 yards per game through the air.

Mestemaker’s top target has been Wyatt Young, but Cameron Dorner isn’t far behind, catching 44 passes for 769 yards and six touchdowns on the year. A lot of Dorner’s scoring has come down the stretch as well, with the senior catching four touchdown passes in his last six games.

North Texas should be throwing the ball a ton in this shootout, and Dorner is the much better value than Young to get a touchdown. At plus money, I’m taking Dorner to score.

Prop bet #2: Caleb Douglas anytime TD

While both the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the BYU Cougars come into the Big 12 Championship with identical 11-1 records, it’s Texas Tech that has been posted as the strong favorite, not least because it already has a 29-7 win over BYU this year.

The Red Raiders found some success both on the ground and in the air against the Cougars in that game, with Behren Morton throwing for 219 yards and a touchdown to wide receiver Caleb Douglas.

That was a surprisingly light game for Douglas outside of the touchdown, as he only caught two passes for 12 yards. It’s the only time in the last five games that Douglas has gone for less than five catches or 80 yards. And he has a total of six touchdowns over his last five games.

While BYU’s defense is tough, Texas Tech showed it can do enough to move the ball and score a reasonable amount against the Cougars in their last meeting.

With Douglas getting significant usage down the stretch, I expect him to be among the scorers that lead the Red Raiders to victory.

Prop bet #3: Bo Jackson anytime TD

The premier game of the weekend pits the Indiana Hoosiers against the Ohio State Buckeyes, with the country’s consensus top two teams facing off in the Big Ten Championship.

While the Buckeyes are the favorites, Indiana is getting far more respect than they did last season, with Ohio State posted as just a 4.5-point favorite.

One key matchup will be how Ohio State can run the ball against an Indiana defense that’s allowing a mere 2.9 yards per run. Working in the Buckeyes favor is the fact that they have a rotating cast of running backs that have shown the ability to wear down opposing defenses this season.

At the top of that list is Bo Jackson, who has the most carries and yardage for the Buckeyes this year. Jackson has only scored six touchdowns in his freshman season, but his production has only improved as the year has gone on. He has three touchdowns in his last three games, and has gone for over 100 yards in each of those contests.

Jackson also gets opportunities in the passing game, which makes him an even better bet to score. This won’t be an easy game for Ohio State’s offense, but these odds are too good to pass up.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
