Alabama vs South Carolina best bet: Alabama team total Over 29.5 (-110)
I’m not going to sugarcoat it. The Alabama Crimson Tide looked bad in their season-opening loss to the Florida State Seminoles. But that sure feels like a lifetime ago at this point.
Alabama has now won six straight games, which includes wins over rivals Georgia and Tennessee, and Ty Simpson and the Crimson Tide's passing attack have been the catalyst.
Simpson looks like one of the best natural passers in the country and has a trio of terrific receivers at his disposal in Ryan Williams, Germie Bernard, and Isaiah Horton. With that group, he’s thrown for 1,931 yards on an impressive 10.8 yards per attempt with 18 touchdowns compared to just two interceptions.
Not only is Simpson now the co-favorite to win the Heisman Trophy (+330 at FanDuel), but he has Alabama’s offense ranked fifth in the country in EPA per play and 13th in success rate on dropbacks. And it’s hard to see the South Carolina Gamecocks slowing down Simpson and Co. this week.
LaNorris Sellers and the Gamecocks haven’t been able to recapture the magic from their 9-4 season a year ago. A big reason for that is that the defensive line that was able to create so much pressure last season had to replace almost all of its impact players, and that’s showing up in the numbers.
South Carolina enters this game 92nd in defensive success rate, including 114th on dropbacks. That doesn’t bode well against this Bama offense.
Alabama has played five Power Four teams during this six-game winning streak, averaging 31.2 points per game, going for 30-plus points three times. I’m betting they make it four of six this weekend. Roll Tide.

Simpson hasn’t gone over this number in the last two games, but I really like him to here. South Carolina ranks 114th in defensive success rate on dropbacks, and they haven’t really faced a pure passer like Simpson yet this season, with the best probably being Diego Pavia. Simpson will pick this secondary apart and get Over 265.5 passing yards.
One of the guys who will help him do that is Isaiah Horton. Horton has quietly become one of Simpson’s favorite targets in recent weeks and has scored a touchdown in five of Alabama’s last six games. I’m betting he makes it six of seven this weekend. Add a Horton TD to this SGP.

Alabama is going to win this ball game. While the Crimson Tide are going to put up points, I can't say the same for a South Carolina team that ranks 127th in offensive success rate.
Alabama vs South Carolina spread prediction
Because of the discrepancy on offense, I like Alabama to cover the spread as well. Alabama ranks third in the country in offensive EPA per play on offense and fifth on defense. Plus, the Gamecocks won't be able to control the tempo with their run game or create enough pressure on Simpson.

This number feels pretty good, but I would lean Under here just because you can't trust South Carolina to score enough points in this matchup. The Gamecocks have scored 20 points or fewer in their four conference losses and are averaging just 15.8 points in conference play this season.
