The 90th edition of the Iron Bowl will feature the 10th-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide needing a win to stay in the College Football Playoff Picture when they travel to Jordan-Hare Stadium to take on the 5-6 Auburn Tigers on Saturday, November 29.

My early Alabama vs. Auburn predictions and college football picks expect the Crimson Tide to end the Tigers’ miserable season with a rivalry loss.

Early Alabama vs Auburn spread pick: Alabama -5.5

The Alabama Crimson Tide took a hit to their season two weeks ago when they got their first SEC loss of the season at home to the Oklahoma Sooners. Now they cannot afford a loss if they want to stay in the College Football Playoffs. This win will also put them into the SEC Championship game.

Meanwhile, the Auburn Tigers have lost six of their last eight games overall and six of their seven SEC games. The lone win was over Arkansas, which is now 0-7 in the SEC this season. They have played three different starting quarterbacks this season, but it looks like they will be returning to Ashton Daniels for the Iron Bowl.

Daniels does provide a little bit of a rushing threat, but he has been very inconsistent in his three games. He only managed to score three points a few weeks ago in a home game against the Kentucky Wildcats. Now he faces one of the better defenses in the country, with the Tide allowing only 16.2 points per game.

The Tide have not won a game at Auburn by more than three points since 2015, so I understand why the books are hesitant to make this a big spread. But the Tide are much more talented and have the edge on both sides of the ball here. The Tigers will still fight, but the Tide will end up with at least a touchdown point difference in the win.

Early Alabama vs Auburn total pick: Under 47.5

I mentioned how the Tide doesn’t allow many points to opponents, and they rank 10th in that category. No SEC opponent has scored more than 24 points on them, and three were held to 20 or fewer points.

The Tigers have scored 17 points or fewer in five of their seven SEC games. They have scored 10 or fewer in three of them. Only shootout-style games against Arkansas and Vanderbilt on the road were the Tigers able to find some points. However, this game does not fit that mold.

Alabama has hit the Game Total Under in nine of its last 13 games, and Auburn has hit the Game Total Under in five of its last six games at home. Neither of these teams plays an up-tempo style, and this will be a bit of a rock fight to start.

While I do expect the Tide to pull away at some point, I don’t think it will be pretty for most of the game with the Auburn defense ranking 26th in points allowed per game. I am feeling like this game will find itself somewhere around a 27-17 type win for the Tide.
