Two teams in a logjam chasing down the Pac-12 crown collide at Desert Financial Arena in Tempe, as the Stanford Cardinal visit the Arizona State Sun Devils on February 1.

Both teams sit at 5-4 in conference play and are two of six teams within a game of first place, currently occupied by No. 11-ranked Arizona and Oregon at 6-3.

The Sun Devils are reeling, having dropped four of their last five, but that hasn’t stopped the books from making them 1-point favorites in the college basketball odds.

With Stanford also having lost two of their last three, who takes this all-important battle Thursday? Read below for my preview, complete with my free college basketball picks.

Stanford vs Arizona State best odds

Stanford vs Arizona State picks and predictions

This will be the second and final matchup between these teams, the first of which was a memorable one on December 29 that saw the Arizona State Sun Devils prevail 76-73.

The game will be mostly remembered for the Stanford Cardinal coughing up a 12-point lead with just five minutes to play in the second half. They'll have a similar feeling heading into this one, as they’re coming off a crushing 73-71 loss to Cal.

Normally, Stanford offers a Top-70 offense, putting up 78.8 points per game, powered by a Top-10 3-point shooting mark of 39.6%, while shooting 47.9% from the field (41st).

It’ll surely be tested by ASU, as the Sun Devils are a sturdy 45th in defensive efficiency at KenPom, surrendering 71.5 points per game.

Their problems come on the other end of the court, where they average a paltry 69.4 points per game, a figure that ranks just inside the NCAA’s Top 300. Save for an 82-67 win over USC, they’ve topped 70 points just once in losing four of five.

ASU was crushed last time out by Oregon State 84-71, lowlighted by an abysmal 3-for-26 mark from 3-point range and 34.8% shooting from the field.

The Under has hit in three of the last five meetings, but the 151-point total set for this one is notable, as only one game had a line higher than this one in the last 10 head-to-heads.

Using that figure, the Under would have hit in each of the last five meetings, and seven of the 10. This Sun Devils defense has been better at home, holding opponents to 70 or fewer in four of the last five.

Look for them to stifle the Cardinal, in a finish similar to the first meeting.

My best bet: Under 151 (-110 at DraftKings)

Stanford vs Arizona State same-game parlay

Under 151

Maxime Raynaud Over 9.5 rebounds

Jose Perez Over 0.5 made threes

We’re targeting Cardinal big man Maxime Raynaud, who matched a season-high 15 rebounds against ASU while adding 15 points in their opening matchup. The 7-foot-1 Frenchman ranks second in the Pac-12 in rebounding, pulling down 9.9 per game, and sits just outside the Top 15 in conference scoring at 13.4.

As of late, he's been offering plenty of both, finishing with 11 points and 13 rebounds in what was his fourth double-double in five games. His points + rebounds line for Thursday is set at 22.5 points, which he’s topped in each of his last four double-doubles. Unfortunately, no book is offering this yet in an SGP.

My advice is to wait for this number to hopefully appear. For now, we’ll target his very gettable rebound total of 9.5.

We’ll finish this three-leg SGP with Sun Devils guard Jose Perez. The senior transfer — playing with his fourth team in five seasons — doesn’t shoot a lot of threes, but he’s been wildly accurate when he does, hitting at a 52% clip.

He missed his only triple against Oregon State, but the books have given him a modest 0.5-make line. Considering he’s hit at least one in five of his last seven, he's worth an addition here.

Stanford vs Arizona State spread and Over/Under analysis

This line started as a pick’em, and though it’s moved off that, the spread has yet to touch two points, with most books checking in between -1 and -1.5.

The Cardinal are 10-9-0 against the spread and have covered three of their last four. ASU is just 8-12-0 ATS on the year but has covered the last two matchups against Stanford.

As for the total, the line opened at 149.5, but it’s risen to as high as 151.5. Stanford’s Over/Under is 12-6-1, while the Sun Devils are split at 10-10 O/U this season.
