Missouri vs Memphis Prediction, Picks, and Odds for Tonight’s College Basketball Game

While both Mizzou and Memphis will look much different this year, the latter should have more experience and be more prepared. That's reflected in our best bet below.

Two teams looking forward to putting last year deep into the past open a fresh college basketball season on Monday night when the Missouri Tigers head to the FedEx Forum to take on the Memphis Tigers.

Find out why my Missouri vs. Memphis predictions see the visitors bouncing back a little stronger with more experience as I serve up my college basketball picks for Monday, November 4.

My best bet
Memphis -5 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
The Missouri Tigers went an unfathomable 0-18 in SEC play last season just a year after being the surprise team of the conference at 11-7. This year is expected to be more like Dennis Gates’ first year as head coach of the Tigers, as they bring in plenty of talent through the transfer portal.

It all starts with forward Mark Mitchell, who transferred in from Duke, where he played 28.6 minutes per game and averaged 11.6 points and 6.0 rebounds. They also brought in guard Tony Perkins, who played four years at Iowa and averaged 30.9 minutes, 14.0 points, and 4.6 assists per game last season.

Mizzou also brings in four Top-100 recruits, according to On3, including the No. 32 overall recruit Annor Boateng.

Meanwhile, the Memphis Tigers are bringing an extremely new roster with only 11.0% of their minutes and 8.1% of their scoring from last season. They focused heavily on the transfer portal to revamp this lineup.

Tyrese Hunter transferred in from Texas, where he averaged 11.1 points and 4.4 assists last season. P.J. Haggerty averaged 21.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists last season for Tulsa. Colby Rogers averaged 16.4 points and 3.4 rebounds for Wichita State. This is a shift from Penny Hardaway’s first few seasons at Memphis when he went for top-level freshmen.

Despite so many changes to both rosters, this Memphis lineup has much more experience in big games and has already played exhibition games against UNC and Alabama as opposed to Division II teams.

Both of those games were competitive, and that leads me to believe that Memphis will be more prepared in this opener.

Missouri vs Memphis same-game parlay

Memphis -4.5

Over 154.5

Granted, they were just exhibition games, but Memphis scored 76 points against UNC and 88 points against Alabama. It also allowed 84 and 96 points, respectively. Missouri also scored 90 points in its exhibition game, and I could see this being a fast-paced game with plenty of scoring.
