Marquette vs Providence Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight's College Basketball Game

The Golden Eagles are among the best teams in the country at turning defense into offense, something the Friars struggle to limit. Jason Logan likes Marquette to put up plenty of points in Providence tonight.

The Marquette Golden Eagles enjoyed one of their best offensive efforts of the year the last time they faced the Providence Friars, shooting 53% while notching 94 points in regulation.

Shaka Smart’s crew is coming off a dismal offensive effort (51 points on 38% shooting vs. DePaul), but can poke all the soft spots in the Friars’ defense.

My Marquette vs. Providence predictions and college basketball picks like the Golden Eagles to soar over their team total on Wednesday, March 5.

Marquette vs Providence prediction

Marquette vs Providence best bet: Marquette Golden team total Over 79.5 (-120)

While I don’t expect the Marquette Golden Eagles to shoot as they did in that home win over the Providence Friars, it will flip the hosts’ miscues into easy buckets.

The Golden Eagles forced 17 turnovers in that matchup, panning out to 27 points. Providence has problems controlling the ball, leading the conference with 12.1 turnovers and 15.4 POTOV allowed.

The Friars play a quicker tempo, which fits Shaka Smart’s “Havoc Defense” just fine and will spark the Golden Eagles’ fast break, led by super frosh Nigel James Jr., who scored 38 points against Providence in January.

Marquette vs Providence same-game parlay

The Friars have allowed 80 points or more in 11 of their last 15 games. Marquette’s ability to flip defense into offense is the perfect foil for Providence’s pace, kickstarting a MU attack that stalled last time out.

After scoring only 14 points in the opening 20 minutes vs. DePaul, the Golden Eagles' emphasis will be on a strong start tonight. The Friars are one of the worst first-half defenses in the Big East and may still be without star freshman guard Stefan Vaaks (15.7 points per game), who’s been sidelined with an illness.

Marquette isn’t known for its outside shooting, but James made 4 of 6 from long range against Providence in January and is the Golden Eagles’ most active 3-point threat. The Friars are dreadful at defending the arc, giving up an average of 9.4 triples on 36% opponent shooting.
