The Twins are hot, and its their offense that's been carrying the day lately. That spells trouble for the Blue Jays and the comebacking Alek Manoah, as our MLB betting picks explain.

The Toronto Blue Jays handed the Minnesota Twins a rare loss on Saturday to split the first two meetings of their three-game set, leaving this afternoon’s contest as the all-important rubber match.

With Alek Manoah set to make just his second start of the season for the Jays, Ryan Jeffers and the rest of the streaking Twins bats will be chomping at the bit to put up another big number.

Find out how I see things shaking out in my Twins vs. Blue Jays predictions and MLB picks for Sunday, May 12.

Twins vs Blue Jays prediction

My best bet
Twins team total Over 4.5 (-106 at PROLINE+)

My analysis

Alek Manoah made his return to a major league mound last Sunday for the first time since August 2023 and things went just about as expected. The right-hander was rocked for six hits and seven runs (six earned) while giving up two homers and four walks in just four innings of work against the Nationals.

While Manoah did flash some impressive stuff, as evidenced by six strikeouts in his season debut, it’s obvious that the 26-year-old still has plenty of rust to shake off for the Toronto Blue Jays. That’s why I think the Minnesota Twins will get the best of him this afternoon and put up Over 4.5 runs.

After a middling start to their season, the Twins went off on a 12-game win streak that was just snapped earlier this month. Minnesota has been almost otherworldly at the plate over the last 30 days, registering an MLB-best 161 runs over that span while also ranking tied for first with 150 RBI — good for 5.55 runs per game through their last 29 contests.

Ryan Jeffers has been at the core of the Twins’ offensive outburst, as the catcher has already notched nine home runs and 30 RBI in just 35 games. That’s five homers and 13 RBI shy of his career highs.

Couple that with Max Kepler riding into Sunday on a 13-game hit streak, and it’s hard to envision a world where Manoah survives against this sizzling Twins lineup.

Blue Jays star player prop

My best bet
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 RBI (+165 at PROLINE+)

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. played a big role in Toronto’s 10-8 win on Saturday, cashing in three RBI to go along with four hits in five at bats. Vladdy has been heating up with eight RBI in his last five outings and I’ll look for him to drive in another run this afternoon.

Guerrero Jr. hasn’t quite had the run production you’d expect from him to start the year with 19 RBI in 39 games, but there have been some positive signs of late. The Jays slugger is batting .408 over the last 15 days — the third-best mark in the majors — so naturally the run production should start coming as well.

Twins vs Blue Jays spread and Over/Under analysis

  • The Twins opened as the road favorite at -134, coming into Sunday with 16 wins in their last 19 games. Given the pitching matchup, it’s a bit surprising to see Minnesota not getting a bigger edge this afternoon.
  • Today’s total opened at 8.5 with the Over going 4-1 in Minnesota’s last five games and 5-2 in Toronto’s last seven outings.
  • Twins starter Bailey Ober has allowed two earned runs or fewer in five of his last six starts, with the Under going 3-2-1 in those contests.
