Zack Wheeler was elected to the All-Star Game but decided to skip the festivities in order to rest up and get ready for the second half.
He's battled through three starts since then against the Red Sox, Yankees, and Tigers. While he's allowed multiple runs in each start, he's also shown his strikeout stuff.
Wheeler has 10, 8, and 10 strikeouts in his last three starts for 28 Ks in just 17 2/3 innings. That's over half of the 53 outs by strikeout in that span.
The veteran righthander is now up to 182 strikeouts in 139 2/3 innings this season. He's had at least eight strikeouts in three straight and eight of his last nine starts — the outlier was against the Padres, who have the third-lowest strikeout rate in the league.
Wheeler should be able to rack up at least eight strikeouts again, and it might be worth taking the ladder up to 10 as he's had double-digit punchouts in six starts this season, including two of his last three.
