The Atlanta Braves are one of the hottest teams in baseball. They've won eight consecutive games, mostly in blowout fashion. Seven of the eight wins have come by at least three runs, and they’ve outscored opponents by 40 runs in aggregate.
With ace Chris Sale on the mound against a team struggling to hit lefties, my Nationals vs. Braves predictions and MLB picks see the home side picking up another decisive victory.
Nationals vs Braves prediction
Nationals vs Braves best bet: Braves -1.5 (-115)
It’s hard to put into words how well Chris Sale has pitched this season. He's allowed two runs or fewer in 14 of his past 15 starts, allowing a total of 16 along the way. That’s an average of 1.06 runs per start despite pitching six innings or more in 11 of them.
He is routinely pitching deep into games — allowing opposing hitters to see him 3+ times, allowing them to adjust to his stuff — and still giving up nothing. Absolutely nothing.
I don’t see the Washington Nationals being the team to change that. They’re in miserable form against left-handed pitchers, ranking dead last in wOBA (.234) while striking out 29.3% of the time in September.
Sale pitched against the Nationals last time out and threw eight innings of shutout ball, conceding only three hits along the way.
He should mow them down once again, taking a lot of the load off the offense. He shouldn’t need much run support for the Atlanta Braves to win by multiple runs for the eighth time in nine games.
Caesars QuickPick: Our Nationals vs Braves same-game parlay (SGP)
MacKenzie Gore is a quality pitcher, but the splits are working in Profar’s favor here. Gore has allowed a noticeably higher average to right-handed bats, while Profar has performed better against left-handed arms.
Gore throws the fastball or curve 80% of the time vs. righties, and Profar has hit for a good average against both of those pitches (.267 vs. fastball, .333 vs. curveball).
Rounding out the parlay is a bet on the Under. Sale has allowed nine runs over his last 10 starts, while Gore has pitched much better of late. This has the makings of a 4-2 type of game.
