Both the Seattle Mariners and the New York Mets will be looking to break two-game losing streaks at Citi Field on Friday night.

New York is desperately in need of wins, but my Mariners vs. Mets predictions are taking Seattle to prevail in tonight’s showdown.

Let’s break down what we can expect from tonight’s game in my free MLB picks for Friday, August 15.

Mariners vs Mets prediction

Mariners vs Mets best bet: Mariners moneyline (+104)

It’s difficult to figure out exactly what’s going on with the New York Mets right now. For a while, New York was struggling to score runs. Now it's pitching that's letting the team down more frequently, allowing 6.8 runs per game over the last five contests.

The hope was that the return of Sean Manaea would bolster the Mets rotation, as he did in 2024. So far, his results have been a mixed bag at best.

Manaea has posted a 4.33 ERA in 27 innings of work, and has been particularly poor in his last two starts. He’s allowed at least four earned runs in each of those outings, giving up a homer in both appearances.

The Seattle Mariners have been productive on offense, averaging 4.54 runs per game. They have bats that perform well against lefties, including Julio Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh. And starter Luis Castillo (8-6, 3.19 ERA) is having one of his better years so far in 2025.

It’s hard to bet on the Mets right now, and this matchup doesn’t look promising for them. With plus money on Seattle, I’m taking the Mariners to win outright.

Mariners vs Mets same-game parlay (SGP)

My questions over Manaea are enough for me to pair the Mariners with the Over for my SGP tonight. I’m also throwing in a bet on Julio Rodriguez to pick up at least one RBI.

Rodriguez homered on Thursday night, has a strong matchup against Manaea, and the odds were too good not to include in my parlay.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
