The San Francisco Giants just dropped a series against the Colorado Rockies, so they’ll be eager to go out and try to find a way to take this three-game set from the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Giants are also getting the Dodgers at the right time, as the 2020 World Series champs have lost six of their last 10.

Will San Francisco open this series with a home win over Los Angeles, or can the Dodgers get back on track with a win?

Dodgers vs Giants betting preview

Starting pitchers

Walker Buehler (6-2, 3.84 ERA): Buehler has been roughed up in each of his past two outings, and has allowed nine earned runs in his last 8 1-3 innings. The righty has now given up at least four earned runs in three of his last five starts, and this just isn’t the type of season we expected out of a perennial Cy Young candidate. With that in mind, Buehler should be able to bounce back pretty soon.

Jakob Junis (3-1, 2.51 ERA): Junis has been a complete steal for San Francisco thus far, as the righty has given up two or fewer earned runs in all but one of his eight starts this season. Junis hasn’t had a sub-5.00 ERA since back in 2018, so this year really does seem to be coming out of nowhere. However, the Giants are no strangers to bringing the best out of pitchers and Junis is the most recent success story for them — although it is early in the year.

Dodgers vs Giants picks and predictions

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.

Moneyline analysis

This game features an interesting starting pitching battle, as Buehler is an ace that has struggled in 2022 and will face a pitcher that has essentially been the opposite. Junis was a mediocre pitcher before arriving in San Francisco, but he has looked more like a high-end rotation piece with the Giants.

The price on this game seems to be factoring into their current forms a little too much, and that makes it hard to fade Los Angeles in this spot. Buehler is only 27 years old right now, so it’s not like his age is catching up with him.

He's in the middle of his prime, so the only way to describe his early-season struggles would be some type of injury. Sooner or later, the righty should be able to get himself going rather quickly as he’s just one of the best pitchers in the world.

Buehler has also dominated the Giants throughout his career, as he is 7-1 with a 2.55 ERA against San Francisco. With that in mind, he should be able to go out there and turn in a good performance in this one — especially with Oracle Park being a historically good place to pitch.

As for Junis, there’s no history to draw on with him facing this Dodgers lineup, but he is facing a lineup that hits righties absurdly hard. Los Angeles is third in the league in wRC+ against righties in 2022, and the team is also first in both OPS and isolated power in this split.

This isn't all that surprising considering the amount of firepower that is scattered throughout this Dodgers lineup — and a lot of the team’s best hitters are on the left side of the plate.

Prediction: Dodgers moneyline (-139 at WynnBet)

Over/Under analysis

Since the start of 2020, Buehler has pitched against the Giants nine times. Five of those games have featured less than nine runs being scored, with two others landing right on that number.

Overall, it’s just hard to see the Under not being the right play in this one, even with Buehler not quite up to speed at this point in the season. The right-hander is due for a few big performances in a row at this point, and perhaps he’ll find a way to cruise against a lineup he is very familiar with.

The Dodgers' ability to hit righties is definitely something to fear when betting the Under, but Los Angeles can score six or so runs in this game and the Under would still very much be in play. That’s what makes this so hard to pass up with the number being so high at 9.0.

The Under is also 5-1 in the last six road games that Los Angeles has played, and it’s 12-4-3 when the team is coming off a game in which it gave up five or more runs.

Prediction: Under 9 (-120 at Caesars)

Best bet

When looking at a game like this one, it’s just best not to overthink it. The Dodgers absolutely crushing right-handed pitching, and they’re also sending one of the best pitchers in MLB to the hill in this one. Buehler has struggled to consistently reach the level we know he’s capable of, but it’ll happen eventually.

The righty is due for some positive regression, and it’s just hard to imagine him not ultimately ending up in the NL Cy Young race at the end of the season. The Dodgers are also 6-1 in their last seven games as road favorites and 5-1 in their last six road games against right-handed starters.

Pick: Dodgers moneyline (-139 at WynnBet)
