The New York Yankees faithful made sure to let the Houston Astros know what they and Oscar the Grouch have in common in their first trip to the Bronx since getting caught as filthy cheaters.
To reward their fans the Bronx Bombers slugged their way to a 7-3 victory in the opener of their three-game set for their sixth win in their last seven games. Can the Yankees bats stay hot?

Starting pitchers
Luis Garcia (0-3, 2.70 ERA): The Astros’ No. 6 prospect has looked impressive so far and is coming off arguably his best start of the season, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out six with no walks in five innings of work against the Mariners. The right-hander uses mostly a fastball, cutter, and slider to get batters out.
Jordan Montgomery (1-1, 4.39 ERA): Montgomery has been a solid if unspectacular member of the Yankees rotation this season. The lefty is limiting opponents to a very good .214 average this season. The only problem is his best starts have both come against the Baltimore Orioles and he usually doesn’t pitch long into games.

Moneyline pick
The Yankees’ bats didn’t need to know what was coming to have a good opening game of this series. Giancarlo Stanton smashed a dinger in the first inning and the Bronx Bombers never looked back.
After a slow start to the season, the Yankees are starting to score and are hitting .283 over the last seven games. Now, they go up against Astros rookie Luis Garcia. The right-hander has been solid but has some issues with walks and has averaged just 75 pitches in his three starts.
So, you can expect that he’ll have to hand the ball over to a bullpen that ranks 16th in ERA and 17th in opponent batting average. Additionally, Dusty Baker already had to use four relievers for five innings in the opener.
While Montgomery has had his issues, the Yankees can back him with baseball’s best bullpen, which ranks second in ERA and first in WHIP and opponent batting average. Bet the Yankees to stay hot in this one at a decent price.
PREDICTION: Yankees (-140)
Over/Under pick
As noted, the Yankees’ bats are heating up and none are hotter than Stanton. The Yanks’ outfielder is looking as dangerous as he has ever been and is hitting .477 with four home runs over his last 10 games. Stanton and the likes of DJ LaMahieu have powered the Yankees, putting up 5.71 runs per game over their last seven contests.
Meanwhile, the Astros have been a formidable team at the plate this season themselves, ranking sixth in scoring, fifth in average, and ninth in OPS, and now gets to up against Montgomery. The southpaw has been shaky at times and the Astros hit .257 against lefties.
This game is a good bet to go Over the total.
