A FOX radio and television host will win $50,500 if the Miami Hurricanes beat Indiana in the College Football Playoff championship.
Andy Slater, who lives in Miami, bet $500 on the Hurricanes to win the National Championship at +10000 odds.
Key Takeaways
- The wager was placed before the CFP bracket was announced.
- Miami opened the year at around +40000 to win the National Championship.
- The Hoosiers are 7.5-point favorites in the title game after two dominant wins.
Slater’s audacious wager was submitted to Hard Rock Bet on Dec. 3, before Miami was even selected to participate in the CFP.

That in itself was a risk, as many believed they would be omitted for Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, or Texas.
While the ‘Canes only entered the bracket as the tenth seed, Slater never displayed an ounce of concern. That paid off, as they took down Texas A&M and Ohio State as underdogs and won a late-game thriller against Ole Miss in the semifinal.
On the other side of the bracket, Indiana dismantled both of its opponents, Alabama and Oregon. The Big Ten champions won their two CFP games by a combined score of 94-25 and are 7.5-point favorites in National Championship odds.
Despite that, Slater’s confidence in his team remains unwavering. Just Saturday morning, he made it clear that he would not accept his cash-out offer of $12,233.62, nearly 25 times the amount he risked.

Seeing it through
As if there was a chance of Slater backing down from his wager, he made it clear on Monday morning that he was going to ride the ticket through the end of next week’s title game.
“The public is all over Indiana like I have never seen before,” he wrote in a post on X. “Makes me feel even better.”
Whether or not his comment was tongue-in-cheek, there’s truth to what he said. FanDuel Sportsbook’s insights show that 81% of spread bets and 87% of the pot is on Indiana -7.5.
DraftKings Nation revealed remarkably similar splits at DraftKings Sportsbook, which accepted 85% of bets and 88% of the money on Indiana -7.5.
Both teams went 10-5 against the spread, while Miami was 13-2 on the moneyline to Indiana’s 15-0.
Indiana is also 8-5 (61.5%) against the spread as a favorite, including their 2-0 record ATS as a favorite in the CFP. Miami is 3-0 ATS as an underdog, two of those victories coming in the CFP.
Remarkable underdogs
Indiana is on the verge of rewriting college football history. They won their first conference championship since 1967, quarterback Fernando Mendoza won the Heisman, and they’re one win away from their first National Championship despite entering the season around 150-1.
Miami wasn’t terribly far off, opening at 40-1. They’re only the third team since 2014 to even reach the National Championship game after opening that low, joining Ohio State (2014) and Washington (2023), per SportsOddsHistory.com. Ohio State won its title game, while Washington was defeated.
