Sports betting giant FanDuel and NFL legend Rob Gronkowski are teaming up for a special event at TPC Sawgrass during The Players Championship.

If Gronk can nail a shot onto the iconic island green on the 17th hole, participating FanDuel customers will split $300,000 in bonus bets.

Key Takeaways

  • The event will take place before the start of The Players Championship.

  • Gronkowski previously kicked a 25-yard field goal to try to win $10 million in bonus bets at the Super Bowl.

  • Average golfers have less than a one-in-three chance of hitting the green.

The 17th green at TPC Sawgrass is one of the most storied holes of golf in the world.

FanDuel sports bettors from all across the country could unlock bonus bets if the future NFL Hall of Famer can knock a shot onto the 78-by-81-foot island.

As of Monday, FanDuel customers can redeem a special 50% profit boost for the 17th hole at The Players Championship. Once redeemed, customers are required to submit a wager in the “17th Hole Markets” to unlock an entry into the sweepstakes involving Gronkowski.

If Gronk successfully hits his ball onto the green, everyone who opted-in and placed a wager using their profit boost will receive $100 in bonus bets or a 25% profit boost token.

All wagers must be submitted before 7 a.m. ET on Thursday, March 12 to qualify.

Jordan Spieth – currently 64th in the world golf rankings – plans to join in on the action with Gronk.

FanDuel also plans to offer a 25% profit boost token for customers during every round of the tournament.

Gronk teams up with FanDuel once again

Everyone who takes part in the promotion needs Gronk to successfully green his shot, or they won’t receive any bonus bets.

The spectacle is reminiscent of another FanDuel event called Gronk’s “Kick of Destiny” at Super Bowls LVII and LVIII in 2023 and 2024.

The live Super Bowl campaign tasked Gronkowski with drilling a 25-year field goal during the build-up to the game. If he made the kick, FanDuel users would split $10 million in bonus bets, but if he didn’t, they would walk away empty-handed.

Gronk, who is third in all-time receiving touchdowns for NFL tight ends, was not kind to FanDuel users, missing his all-important kicks in back-to-back years. FanDuel still rewarded its customers, opting to distribute the millions in bonus bets in both cases.

FanDuel pivoted during Super Bowl LIX in 2025 to having retired quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning compete in a 25-yard field goal contest, officially removing Gronk from the proceedings. However, he has received another opportunity to win bonus bets for his supporters at FanDuel.

TPC Sawgrass and The Players odds

The 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass is not revered for being kind to players. According to CNN, as of March 2025, 1,029 balls, or an average of 49 per tournament, have been hit into the water surrounding the island since 2003.

YouTube channel GolfMonthly also claimed that an average golfer with a handicap of 15 has just a 32% chance of hitting the green on their first try.

With two days until the tournament begins, FanDuel lists American Scottie Scheffler (+480) as the clear-cut favorite in The Players Championship odds. Rory McIlroy (+1,600), Collin Morikawa (+1,800), Si Woo Kim (+2,200), and Ludvig Åberg (+2,200) complete the top five in odds to win the event.
