When PENN Entertainment brought in ESPN to be its sports betting platform brand in 2023, it opened the door for crossover opportunities with the sports media company that make wagering easier for users.

On Monday, ESPN BET announced the kind of product executives believe will do just that.

Key takeaways

  • ESPN app users can link up with their ESPN BET account to create a personalized hub that makes wagering easier.
  • Bettors can quickly access betting markets for their favorite teams and fantasy players.
  • The new products, pending regulatory approval, will be available before football season.

The online sports betting operator plans to debut FanCenter, a feature that creates a personalized hub, allowing bettors to discover betting markets based on their favorite teams, players, and fantasy football rosters, before the start of football season.

The technology integrates the ESPN BET platform with ESPN’s app, letting fans create a “For You” page that provides access to player props, game markets, and custom parlay offerings.

"FanCenter introduces a completely new level of personalization for ESPN BET players and represents our biggest product leap yet," said Aaron LaBerge, PENN Entertainment's chief technology officer and head of interactive. "It taps into our players' fandom in smart, creative ways while connecting seamlessly with ESPN's industry-leading fantasy football platform. This is what sets ESPN BET apart, and football season is the perfect time to roll it out."

Fantasy comes to life

FanCenter's main attraction is “Fantasy Bet Builder,” a product that allows users to make correlated wagers from their fantasy rosters and return to their team in just a few taps.

Betting will also be integrated into the ESPN Fantasy app, which set an all-time fantasy app mark with 13 million users last year. Fantasy customers can click on the “Find a Bet” icon inside the ESPN Fantasy app, access player-related markets, and add selections directly to the ESPN BET slip.

“FanCenter is the perfect combination of fandom, fantasy, and personalized betting all wrapped into the ESPN BET betting experience,” said Mike Morrison, vice president of ESPN BET and ESPN Fantasy. “FanCenter showcases how we can serve fans across our platforms in a way that nobody else in the market can because of our industry-leading ESPN Fantasy platform and account-linking capabilities.”

The product integration will also give ESPN app users access to ESPN BET’s player stats and trends feature for prop betting. In addition, customers can access their Mint Club account through FanCenter.

ESPN BET said new product features are subject to regulatory approval in the 19 U.S. states where the platform operates.

Making up ground

The sports media company began doing more integration between its main sports app and betting platform last year, letting users track live bets. Before March Madness, ESPN BET customers gained access to the ESPN Bracket Challenge from the sportsbook platform.

In April, ESPN launched the Mint Club to give players exclusive offers, weekly promotions, deposit bonuses, giveaways, and more.

PENN, which operates gaming in 28 U.S. jurisdictions, is committed to product innovation in hopes of making up market-share ground and compete with FanDuel and DraftKings. ESPN BET struggled to turn a consistent profit for the gaming operator since the November 2023 launch.
