As part of Caesars Sportsbook’s extensive Super Bowl LX prop menu, the online and retail operator is commemorating a play that helped create the Big Game’s betting craze.

Key Takeaways

  • Caesars Sportsbook is offering a +1,800 prop bet on a defensive player scoring an offensive touchdown.

  • The prop bet craze took off when “Refrigerator” Perry scored a TD 40 years ago.

  • Caesars has upgraded its mobile app to enhance live betting for Super Bowl LX.

In 1986, long before mobile devices ruled the industry, Caesars Palace bookmakers put up a +2,000 prop market on Chicago Bears defensive tackle William “Refrigerator” Perry to score a touchdown in Super Bowl XX against the New England Patriots.

The prop bet received national attention, which was instrumental in the industry and was shortened to as low as 2-to-1 odds. Perry famously barreled his way into the end zone on a handoff in Chicago’s 46-10 win.

Forty years later, Caesars is offering +1,800 odds on a defensive player to score an offensive touchdown in Feb. 8’s Super Bowl between the Seahawks (-4.5) and Patriots.

Ironically, the last defensive player to find the end zone in the Big Game was current Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel as a linebacker in Super Bowl XXXIX while playing for New England against the Eagles.

Prop market madness

That TD prop is just one of the many ways Caesars is getting creative with a massive prop list that continues to expand every year.

“Our Super Bowl LX Prop Betting Menu reflects where today’s bettors are heading,” said Craig Mucklow, Caesars Sportsbook’s vice president of trading. “It’s our most comprehensive and diverse offering ever, built with the scale and creativity fans expect for the Super Bowl, plus a mobile experience that helps bettors quickly find the wagers they want.”

This year’s prop menu consists of thousands of markets, spanning players, teams, the game, and novelty categories. Caesars is offering its deepest statistical props ever. and more specialty bets will attract a wide audience of customers.

Sure, bettors can get in on traditional wagers like the Patriots +4.5 or the over 45.5, but countless other betting markets are offered, from which players will record a sack to what the last scoring play of the game will be.

There are even more players listed than usual for popular markets like anytime touchdown scorer and multiple stat categories for nearly every participant.

Caesars is offering specialty player markets like “The Boston T Party,” which has New England's TreVeyon Henderson scoring the first touchdown, the running back rushing for 30+ yards, and the Patriots winning - with odds of +10,000 if all three hit.

Caesars has squares for the Big Game and has already posted odds for next year’s Super Bowl, with the Rams favored at +900.

Going online

Caesars said it recently updated its sportsbook app to provide a “refreshed live wagering environment” and “dynamic play-by-play markets.” The online operator streamlined browsing tools and has daily rotating Quick Picks.

As for promotions, the new Super Bowl LX Parlay Escalator offers boosted odds up to 55%, and there’s a $1-million “50 Burger” bonus bet jackpot where same-game parlay bettors can opt into a pool to split the winnings if either team scores 50 points.

Prop bettors can also take advantage of Monday’s “Prop Day” promotions on the mobile app. Eligible customers can receive five 25% profit boosts on Super Bowl prop bets, and Caesars will hold hourly flash boosts on prop markets at noon ET.

The prop menu will continue to be updated on the app and at retail locations throughout the period leading up to the Big Game in Santa Clara, California.
