Alberta residents will have no shortage of options when regulated online sports betting and casinos launch in the Canadian province on July 13.

Key Takeaways

  • More than 50 platforms are registered to operate online sports betting, casinos, or both in Alberta.

  • The July 13 launch will include big names like FanDuel, DraftKings, and bet365.

  • Several Ontario-regulated companies will also be part of Alberta’s iGaming.

More than 55 different platforms have been approved to operate by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis (AGLC) when the regulatory framework goes live. There are currently 49 registered operators from around 30 gaming companies.

Play Alberta is the government-run iGaming platform and will receive competition from heavily established U.S. and European operators, as well as smaller outfits looking to get a foothold in the second province, joining Ontario, to regulate iGaming.

Operators of all sizes

Alberta will see big brands like FanDuel, DraftKings, and bet365. BetMGM, PENN Entertainment’s theScore Bet, and Caesars are three companies that plan to launch both an Alberta online casino and Alberta sports betting. They're among operators currently offering early registration, allowing Alberta bettors to create an account and be ready to bet as soon as those sites can legally offer wagering.

PointsBet, which also operates in Ontario, was the first platform to be approved by the ALGC and open pre-registration. Other popular North American operators coming to Alberta include Bally’s, DraftKings’ online casino Golden Nugget, and BetRivers.

Many other platforms offering sports betting and casinos in Ontario are expected to launch in Alberta. Soft2Bet’s Tooniebet, European operator TonyBet, and popular Ontario sportsbook BET99 are all ALGC-registered.

Super Group subsidiary Cadtree will launch Betway for sports betting and four online casinos, including the popular brand Spin Casino.
