LIV Golf Greenbrier Picks and Odds: Bryson Defending Greenbrier Title, Historic 58

The 2023 edition of LIV Golf Greenbrier saw Bryson DeChambeau shoot a final-round 58 and win by six shots. He's back to defend that title and is among the favorites with Jon Rahm.

LIV Golf returns to The Old White for its Greenbrier event a year removed from Bryson DeChambeau's final-round 58 and six-shot victory.

He's only improved in our estimation since then and took down his second major championship at the U.S. Open this summer. That makes him one of the favorites in our LIV Golf Greenbrier golf odds below.

LIV Golf Greenbrier field and favorites

It looked like Jon Rahm might parlay his win at LIV Golf UK into an Olympic gold medal in Paris but it wasn't meant to be. He let a four-shot lead with nine holes left slip, ultimately settling for a T5 finish.

That said, the form is undeniable and the odds reflect as such. He's either the solo betting favorite (as short as +550) or in a tie for first with defending champion Bryson DeChambeau.

Speaking of Bryson, he'll have all the eyes this week after making history a year ago. He went 68-61-58 (yes, 58) and lapped the field to win by six, and with the form he's maintained this season, he's clearly a contender once more. He won with 14/1 odds last year but is as short as +650 this week.

Joaquin Niemann and Tyrrell Hatton make up the next two spots (odds between +700 and +900) and both finished T2 at the LIV UK event three weeks ago. Niemann also played in the Olympics and went 66-70-68-68 to finish T9.

The Old White Golf Course notes

The Old White at The Greenbrier will play as a 7,299-yard Par 70 this week and host a LIV Golf event for the second consecutive season. Crushers GC Captain Bryson DeChambeau won last year and set the course record with a final-round 58.

Old White features bentgrass for the tees, fairways, greens, and fringe/collars. The Charles Blair Macdonald design challenges players with its hallmark tight, tree-lined fairways and undulating greens.

LIV Golf Greenbrier picks and predictions

Louis Oosthuizen to win outright (+2,000 at DraftKings)

With three runner-up finishes and another four Top 10s across his past 10 LIV Golf events, Oosthuizen has been consistently knocking on victory’s door this season while playing a tight, all-around game.

The South African has gained strokes across the five tee-to-green metrics for the season, and he also ranks second in driving accuracy, first in scrambling percentage, and second in putting average on the circuit.

While Oosthuizen finished T25 in this event last year, this will also be his third competitive trip to Old White, and it sets up well for his tidy game.

Sergio Garcia Over Cameron Smith (+110 at bet365)

Garcia has a Top 20 finish in five consecutive LIV Golf events, including his win at Andalucia, and he impressively finished T12 at the U.S. Open. Smith has been equally solid, with three consecutive Top 10s in LIV events, but he also missed the cut at The Open and finished T32 at the U.S. Open and T63 at the PGA Championship.

It’s been the Spaniard ranking better in strokes gained off-the-tee-driving and on Par 3s, and Garcia is the better long-iron player and ranks above Smith in both strokes gained on long and medium approaches. Garcia also ranks fifth in greens-in-regulation percentage and fourth in scrambling percentage compared to Smith respectively checking in 30th and 12th.

Brooks Koepka Over Sebastian Munoz (-120 at DraftKings)

Koepka is coming off his best LIV Golf finish (T16) since winning in Singapore, and now that the 2024 major championships are in the rearview mirror, I’m anticipating him finishing off the LIV season strong. He’s also topped Munoz in each of the five tee-to-green strokes gained metrics this year.

The American ranks higher in greens-in-regulation percentage and scrambling percentage this season, and the only reason we’re landing a fair number here is because Munoz finished T12 in this event last year, while Koepka finished T38. After all, Koepka ranks 48th in the Data Golf Rankings, while Munoz is 113th.
