Erlana makes 60% field goals and 75% free throws during this postseason. Indiana made 9 of 9 their free throws, but Larkins wasn't forced to shoot them even once in game one. But there is no doubt in my mind that Larkins won the game for them win rebounding and easy scores. What Brunson did for Minnesota in game 3 vs Seattle, Larkins did for Indiana just now.
Suppose she offensive rebounds 5 times in game two, and looks to score every time, like she did in game one.
Defended straight-up, she should score 3 times for 6 points. If fouled immediately, she will shoot 10 free throws for 7 points. This second option implies that the defender tries for the ball, so perhaps once out of 5 times a steal can be gotten.
I just think constant hitting will take its tall. Minnesota should use their bench a little more late in quarters and foul Larkins more during that time. Perhaps she loses her temper and does something stupid, starts making mistakes. She isn't a threat making free throws, she is a threat making bunny layups and proceeding to play inspired defense.
I also noticed that Larkins hasn't fouled ONCE in game 1. Clearly, putting a body on her at all times and forcing 1-2 offensive fouls (since she is always looking up, looking for the ball to rebound, and will likely walk through and step on players) could actually work.
Should Minnesota foul her a lot more often? Please discuss.
