We are back with another Grandslam!
This year I will do a first-week challenge for 5 plays for 5 days.
I am starting with £500 goal £16,000!
For the first round, I like the following plays
Play 1: Pera+Mertens
Pera is playing Kalinina who is in very bad form. She only has 2 wins in her last 7 games, both games coming in qualifiers in Cincinnati. So 5 straight 1st rounds losses and she played really bad again Mertens (6-1 6-1) and her last lose against 216 Sigmeund. She has also really bad results in US open, reached 2nd round twice, out in the qualifier 4 times and 1st round 1time.
Bernarda Pera is playing really well, today she is playing the semi-final in Cleveland and has already won 2 WTA titles this year, her first 2 and has 32 wins this year.
Mertens is always under the radar, was ranked 12 in the world last year, and is always doing well in the big tournaments, here in the US Open she reached:
Round of 16, Quarterfinal, Quarterfinal and Round of 16 in her last 4 years. She has over 200 wins on hard and is 3-0 H2H against Begu.
Begu we all know is a clay player, she has played US open 12 times and only gone past the first round 2 times.
Play 2: Tomljanovic+Munar
Berrettini's old girlfriend Anja Tomljanovic is a bit like Mertens, often goes under the radar and the bookies always underestimate her. Since the breakup, she's been on a roll!
QF in Wimbledon, only lost again the winner Rybakina, beat Kudermetova in Montreal and QF is now in Cincinnati beating Barbosa and Kudermetova again. She also reached the 3rd round in the US Open last year She is now playing Muchova Karolina.
Muchova Karolina has been injured all season and got a wildcard to collect a paycheck. She is ranked 250 at the moment and only played 12 matches (6/6) this year and she withdraw from her last matches against 18-year-old Scott down 6-3 and 4-0.
I have been really impressed by Munar lately, he's a player like Ruud from Nadal's academy and has played most on clay (15 challenge titles all on clay) he is playing another clay player in Carballes Baena Roberto. But while Munar has played more and more on hard, 12-7 this year (more hardcourt wins than Carbealles have had in his last 4 years). Carballes is 1-6 on hard this year.
Munar has won against good hardcourt players like Millman, and Carreno-Busta and played 5 sets against Karatsev in Us Open earlier this year.
PLAY 3: Keys+Haddad Maia +Fernandez+ T. Paul
Big favourites that I think will go into the second week, can't really see any of them go out in the first round.
Play 4 and 5 in the second round.
