Aside of all the gambling, I figured I'd start up a topic for fun's sake. Personally love the forum, coming in on a daily basis to take part of other peoples threads and discuss the thing we all have in common - soccer and gambling. It impresses me that the level of acceptance and good attitude is that high, and it struck me - I wish I knew many of these people!

I assume most people just know each other by their alias and a profile picture, so how about a short introduction to get another thing to associate the alias with?

I.e, to start off - Sweem,

Most people likely associate me with Portuguese or Swedish soccer, or perhaps "the one with the Penguins picture" and now.. Arsenal. But to that end, I'll just add the basics - I'm 21 y/o, Swedish native now located on the Maltese island since two years, actually fortunate to work within the gambling industry. Playing soccer actively since 12 years back, no big achievements but played in the swedish second division and had a tryout with some clubs on this island which is generally very low level.

Most of you guys are from the U.S I believe? I've only visited once, in Pennsylvania. Not sure if anyone is from there? I plan on going to NY this November, nothing confirmed yet but it's on the way

Feel free to fill in with a couple of sentences about yourself. I think it's great to get to know the people you read threads from every day

I'm from Leicester - back in the Premier league after 10 years!!!! Now living in Sydney. 42 years young....

coming from bosnia 25y old im student last year economics & marketing
also a webdesigner and internet marketer i do to make money..
in free time i love gym, travel, night life party drinking and hot chicks! when i was younger played sports football,basket but just for fun with friends and training swimming for like 4 years :)
started with betting like 5 years ago here and there but last 2 years it been constantly almost every day im somehow addicted. cant say im proud on this as i losing money still not have proper strategy to play but thats how it is. maybe one day if i settle find serious offline job and get married i will quit or still bet but rarely so my wife doesnt notice, however till then im here with great community and nice people

I think you're gonna find that most people enjoy their anonymity. Not me, although I don't post much anymore.

So I'm a soon to be 40 Belgian who has been living in Ontario for the past 17 years, most people think I'm Pakistani or Indian due to my screen name which in actuality is Latin. I've worked most of my time here as a self employed owner/operator in a physically demanding job, had to quit due to health issues last year and haven't found a new path yet. Been married to Mrs Ganda for 16 yrs and she had kids from a previous marriage.
Have always enjoyed this forum and will hopefully hang around for a while yet.

Oh I know people probably enjoy their anonymity, it's everyone's choice :) Nice to get to know some kind of things aside of just the screen names though, at least I find that interesting

Alex, so youre from Bosnia originally? I have heritage from the Balkans as well, recently actually put in an effort to learn the language so I believe I can manage it quite well now ^^

Ganda, haha I also thought you may be asian such as India or something, perhaps heritage from there, but I saw you've been picking Belgian games at times, so I figured you're likely Belgian. Nice to hear the stories Gives another perspective on the people in here

Sweem my man whats going on!?.. I split time bw New York city Puerto Rico and some of the other Caribbean Islands.. I am a Food broker basically connecting companies and distributors with new/better/different products from the mainland to the islands,, Sports is my passion by far but never had or made my own opportunity in the field professionally so watching/wagering all major sports is my main hobby haha.. I have no idea what its like in Sweden, the maltese islands and countless other places around the world and it is a major goal to take a chunk of time off and just travel when the finances are right,, 33 yrs old/ married / no kids.. Good to know you guys!

Funny, when I was a kid I wanted to be a chef. But no Billy, I wish, I was in residential custom built homes, the framing end of it. Heavy duty, man. Auto immune issues and worn out joints made me quit full time, although I will go in and help out once and a while.

I'm 67 yrs OLD!! Been gambling since i was 17/18. I've been shot twice & stabbed once. When I was 20/21 I lost my 65 Mustang to a bookie and it was sooo embaressing to .... #1 tell my wife we had to ride the city bus for almost 2 weeks (we only had one car) and take baby to baby sitter for 2 weeks and pick up also, she got into our meager savings and gave me $350 to get the car back. I swore that I was done w/sports betting ... 3 days later I met my old local @ a restaurant after work & gave him $50 to put on Broadway Joe Namath to pass O/22 times >>> I WON, SOOO, I was hooked again. 

I bet soccer cause I know VERY LITTLE about the game.

I have another love nowadays..playing BlackJack @ Harrah's n Cherokee NC.

married almost 46 yrs to the only woman I have EVER loved of all the ones I lusted after, 2 beautiful adult daughters, unfortunately NO blood grandchildren.

What I figuered out about 5/6 yrs ago.....give to charity all you can afford and your life will be more meaningful!!!

BK.....from Chicago Illinois (suburbs).  Hate living in Illinois, even though Chicago is a cool city.  Now that I am getting old (still south of 40 though) and have a family, going into the city is a headache for me.

Just made my first visit to Europe two weeks ago.  Went to Milan, Genoa, Monaco, Ventimiglia, and Bergamo.  Was an amazing time, and want to explore more of Italy.  The only disappointment on the trip was that I did not attend any futbol matches.  Was going to go to Torino for a Juve match, but the game was sold out.  Could have also stayed a 2nd night in Monaco and gone to their match vs Nantes, but we decided it was too expensive for another night, so went to Ventimiglia instead, which was a great little town and I don't regret the decision.  

Gambling and sports betting is in my blood.  My Great-Uncle was a syndicated bookie for the mob in Chicago back in the day (so I am told), and my dad almost went to work for him, but my mother (his newlywed wife at the time) told him to pick being a bookie, or being with her, not both.  He chose her.  Lucky for me, or else I wouldn't exist!  Nevertheless, I was around sports and gambling and pools my entire life.  My parents ran an NFL confidence pool every year, and Sunday's while the family was at church, I stayed home to answer the phone and take picks.  Been gambling on games on and off since the early 90's.  Also very passionate about playing poker.

Of all the major sports, college football and NFL are probably my strongest to wager on.  I also love college basketball.  Baseball I have found boring to wager on, but still do so from time to time.  

I've always loved soccer, despite never having played a minute in my life.  The World Cup was always my favorite and it really became big for me in 1994 when the US hosted.  Since then I have closely followed the WC and qualifying.  In the past 3-4 years I have really taken a liking to the top European Leagues, and love watching what I can, and of course, wagering on it.  Premier League is probably what I follow the most, obviously because in the US it's the league that gets the most coverage.  I'm a big supporter of Glasgow Celtic, but that league is SHYTE for the most part.  Rangers will be back in 2 years (possibly) so then things will heat up again.  I like wagering on soccer too, as it gives me something to keep me occupied at work during the day!!  

I'm not a big hitter when it comes to gambling.  I do it as a hobby and entertainment.  My wife allows it (within reason) and since we have a family, and I am required to be home a lot with them, it serves as my entertainment.  I'm not trying to make a living doing this, nor am I going to go broke.

In addition to wagering on games, I play fantasy baseball and football, and will join just about any office pool thrown my way (golf, ncaa, etc).  


I haven't been posting in the soccer forum much of late.  I find my expertise to be a bit less than par, but I am always trying to learn more and pick better spots, as opposed to just throwing 5-6 wagers down every day "just because".  But I do enjoy this forum as there is less BS than the other main forums, which I do find myself tangled up in from time to time!!

Jeeeesh...someone sure likes to talk about themselves.

My nickname refers to a comic that I've read when I was younger. I'm also Belgian like Ganda, but still living in Belgium. I lived almost in every city in Belgium but know I am settled in Antwerp. I am a legal...but actually I hate doing a job behind a desk. So I am going to make a change and fulfill a childsdream: Becoming a M.D.

I played football for 12 years and gave it up for skating with friends. My other passion is music. Producing tech-house with my alter ego Mano Tiro. For those who want to buy my tracks, go to iTunes or Beatport haha. Youtube is also possible.

I bet on footballgames, tennis and NBA. I dont post regulary, because i am scared to give the wrong advice. But for those who want to know... I started earlier this week with a new account on Unibet, for 7euros. Today my bankroll is 135. I pick my bets carefully, after reading a lot. Maybe it is time to share my picks...

billyloco love your story!!...iam from new jersey...50 years old been gambling since my mets won the ws in 86...got hooked since then...i have stopped a bunch of times over the years but always come back to this fing habit ...which honestly i wish i never started...if i had all the money back i lost over the years i be very happy!..i had big hits too but you remember the bad beats more...you could imagine the bookies i have met and used over the years living in this area near new york....actually bumped into the iceman back in 84 and didnt even know he was a cold killer!

Billy,  my vote is with you as well. Can't top that one.

Born here in Canada to German parents. By the age of 6, Dad was tossed to the curb for all his womanizing. Stay at home Mom, tried to work 2 jobs to make ends meet, so I grew up in a hurry. By age 13 I left for Mexico with a note from Dad, a new passport and Visa for 6 months.
Lived in Mexico City for 6 mths, going to an English speaking school called " Escuela de Boston ", just off Reforma Ave. Did a 6 week stint in Cuba, before I was returned to Canada after the discovery of my expired Visa. I was ordered by a court to live in a group home for 3.5 years as a " Ward of the courts ". 
 Released at 17, I worked at a Sports store where I met an influential customer that got me an interview with 3 Financial Institutions. I started at $8300 / yr as a " Runner " with a briefcase full of securities. lied about having my Grade 12, and passed all the appropriate courses such as CSC , Commodities 1 &2 , CFE etc. Met a hot chick at the company I worked for, got married and had 3 beautiful daughters. Became a decent bond trader and made great money,traveled and worked in NY for a stint.
 Coached and played soccer. Watched my daughters grow up to become beautiful human beings, and now I relish the lives they lead and all the joys that come with it. They, and soccer, are the pillars of my existence.
I am a truly blessed person. 
Life really doesn't owe me anything.

well, my own story is pretty dull in comparison to some of the other posters...i'm rather new to soccer, having grown up in north america (Canada) and not really following it much during the formative years.  But as we all know, things can be a little more interesting when you can lay a few bucks on what we call professional sports.  This being the first season of soccer I'm watching, you don't realize how global the game is until you see all the matches that take place at any given time.....bundesliga, serie a, copa libertadores, j-league, a-league..wow!  Despite the ugliness of match fixing and corruption, it truly is the world's sport, and something people from around the globe can partake in.  

have always enjoyed having a punt, after all, life is one big gamble...there's not one thing you do that doesn't involve some kind of risk in this world, it's just that this particular form has somewhat negative connotations depending on who you talk to..

just your typical office worker these days...nothing exciting, but i would like to share this:  About 2 years ago, my dad had a bad stroke, and when i mean bad, i mean vegetable bad.  Only in his late 60s, was about to retire, then this garbage sandwich appeared and now he's got to eat it piece by piece.  Can't move, can't talk can't do anything.  It's a joke.  If he were an fool, I could live with it but he was a decent man and doesn't deserve this fate.  There are no good days anymore, it's simply a matter of managing the crappiness of each day.  The least I can do is just visit him when I can...whole thing just pisses me off though, as it felt like the health care system was useless during this whole ordeal

Things like this can throw you in a stupor, and if anything, sports are one of the few things that can offer a distraction, an outlet if you will.  Apart from that, life is a blessing..every day you have good health should not be wasted, so don't fixate too much on the petty crap that appears every now and then.  take time to enjoy the small things in life..there will be a day when you can't enjoy that coffee, or buy flowers for your wife, etc..

Oh, and if you're in a relationship, don't check sports scores too much on the phone.  Trust me, women don't appreciate it.  I learned the hard way.. i'd be curious how some of you married folk balance the sports, family, etc..  but that's for another thread.

Beertapper, I'm sorry to hear about your daily adversity.

As for balancing sports/sports betting with married life, you must simply sacrifice your sleep time and do your capping in the morning when no one is up or late at night when they've all gone to bed.

So true.  I will cap tomorrow's card later this evening when everyone has gone to bed, and be up early watching matches!!  It's become my Friday night ritual.

Thanks for great topic Sweem. I'll keep it short & sweet. Live in st. louis louis, mo. 53. Married 29 years. Still a virgin ;) Two god-blessed-me daughters . Was North American Director of promotional advertising for a global behemoth. Decided to start my own mid-sized agency. Was successful till had to have liver, kidney transplant end me. I'm retired now on disability and past earnings/investments. Addicted to gambling and alcohol . LOVE the cunning, baffling, powerful beasts.
