It's been a while since I've posted, at least consistently, in this forum. I'm not guessing there will be many page views but I do think there is a pretty strong angle for tonights game so I thought I'd start a thread to discuss.
In my humble opinion, there is NO WAY that Tottenham should be as much a s 2to1 underdog to Manchester United. The Spurs have played very well vs. United over the years, especially recently, and their poor form is a combination of bad play and bad luck. The latter I think has caught up to them more than the former. And, in this competition, their luck has been completely opposite to what it's been in the Premier League.
To start, Tottenham have had an exorbitant amount of injuries to their best players, especially in defense, for the entire season. Many of those injure bodies have recently returned so I think they will have their game shape and be ready for a full match, should it come to that. Furthermore, Spurs have hit the post in the top 3 of Premier League teams, signaling they could have had a lot more goals should their luck have been slightly different.
As for Manchester United, they too have been disappointing, but some would argue maybe not as much. I would beg to differ as they have just succumbed to drama and poor play, mixed in with some injuries of course, but nothing like what Spurs have witnessed. Additionally, while they have brought in a new coach who is very highly regarded, he is NOT playing with the players he would want in his system and that won't change overnight. Tottenham on the other hand have a "crew" of those players but most have been injured in some capacity, so tonight will be very telling.
Lastly, this is the year of teams ending the drought for trophies, and if I'm being somewhat superstitious, I think Tottenham is next in line not having won a trophy in more than 13 years. First, Bologna won the Coppa Italia ending their trophy less drought and then, last weekend, Crystal Palace pulled off a shock to do the same. I think Tottenham is next in line and for that reason I am playing...
TOTTENHAM (+200) FG
TOTTENHAM (EV) TO LIFT THE TROPHY
I will sink or swim with this tonight but I think on a neutral field in Spain with two somewhat disappointing teams who know one another well, there is no reason that Spurs can't get it done. I also like the Asian handicap but I'll take a stab at the 2-1 odds on Spurs FG given how many players WILL be available tonight. As always, tail or fade, good luck to all....
