Yes, making the comment "we need to be careful about what we say" is obviously code language for "let's ban all language we don't agree with."

I really am not disagreeing with this. I am suggesting that it is premature to infer that someone making a statement such as "we need to be careful what we say" is suggesting that we need to be careful by legislation rather than personal choice.
It is interesting, though, that your party was in charge when the greatest violation of rights under the 1st Amendment was enacted. Google or research terrorist association and you will see exactly what I mean.
