To answer your original post I believe gun control is for safety.As for the topic ,it's apples(guns) and oranges(hammers) because there are few multiple murders using hammers as opposed to guns. Wouldn't a lot of people have been better off if Adam Lanza would have had a hammer instead of a semi auto?

The first election I can remember was in 1960 and the battle cry of the republicans was "The democrats will take your guns if Kennedy gets elected". Hasn't happened yet has it? Maybe in time it will but I don't believe in my or my childs lifetime it will. In all reality it might not be a bad thing since society has progressed to the point where killing someone doesn't bother many anymore.As far as the hammer comparison goes another difference is that hammers have multiple uses, mostly constructive in my opinion and guns whether it be pistols, rifles or shotguns were created for the sole purpose of killing.
