DJ, it basically is an outright ban in ny state, because after yesterday you can no longer buy those type of weapons. Sure if you got them, your fine. But if a law abidding person now decides next week they want to own, they cant. Politicians have zero right to control peoples lives with laws like this, they arent God. Also they passed that bill without the 3 days of public comment, who do these politicians think they are, to by pass ways things are supposed to be done. Cuomo was just letting the far left know hes there man for 2016.

Banning certain forms of weapons is not an outright ban on firearms (plural). And if you re-read my post, I never stated nor believed that the new laws will eliminate such tragedies. The question is whether they can make it more difficult to obtain weapons which may reduce them.

I'm not saying. that I have fear of others having guns ..in fact the more non-violent gun owners the merrier.
I'm saying if guns were banned and it became against the law to own/have one ..many - millions - of gun owning, law abiding owners before the banning.. would not turn their guns in ..thus making it a crime to own a gun.

Taking away guns, yes assault rifles from law abidding citizens, doesnt do one damn thing to stop a crazy person from getting a gun or any weapon for that matter from killing people. Even if the whole world got rid of guns, that wouldnt stop people from killing. Do you even have a clue how easy it is to make bombs at home that could kill tons more people.
Alcohol and cigarettes kill more people a year then guns do. Why not get rid of both of these things and you will save tons of lives every year.

Just because a person owns an assault rifle, that doesnt mean they are gonna go crazy and kill people. I know a lot of people who just like to go shoot at ranges or out on their land in the country.
These new gun laws only effect law abidding people. If somebody is crazy and wants to go kill a bunch of people, these laws mean nothing to that person.

the shooting didn't happen in NY, had nothing to do with pistols that hold 10 round magazines, and in fact happened in a state with an Assault Weapons ban, gun registration, gun sale background checks via the FBI instant background check system, and gun sale waiting periods.
So obviously more laws have nothing to do with it.
