asking who is more important, mgmt or labor is like asking which came first, the chicken or the egg. obviously there's no product without design and innovation from mgmt and there's no production without labor. im all for people making as much money as they can...when have i ever said people shouldnt get as much as possible? if you're referring to the UAW, they threaten the viability of the Little 3 to continue to exist...thats when there should be cuts across the board
i dont even know what a neo-con is so there's no need to throw insults (i think). im more of a capitalist/libertarian than anything. i deal in economic truth and continue to examine the effects of lib/labor policy and how it effects the business itself. you just want the working man to get paid regardless of the consequences to the overall business...that cant happen

wait until henry waxman gets in full power over house energy committee (won it from dingall yesterday). waxman is a cali lib who hates cars and carbon emissions. carbon taxes out the ass...detroit is done

Well KOAJ, you always keep saying people dont have to work for 10-15 bucks an hour and are free to look elsewhere for work. Well if the unions are all busted out like guys like you want to happen, then there isnt going to be any good paying jobs for people to look for. They will be forced to work for that under 10 bucks an hour salary. Its the unions who have helped to maintain the good paying jobs in this country.
So you never addressed my question, if all the good paying middle class jobs are gone, how is a person suposed to take care of his family, buy a house, pay for health insurance, fund their own pension ete etc all while working for the peanut wages. Please do explain how this would be possible.
Its really a useless battle with guys like you because in your minds, you want all the regular workers broke and just working to enhance your life and the corporations. Like i have said before the dream of guys like you is to have a fleet of workers working for you for 5 bucks an hour while you enjoy 99 percent of the profits. Who cares if the workers dont make enough money to live on, just as long as the owners are able to live in that mansion with all kinds of luxury cars in the driveway.

cd, i am one of those regular workers
I make peanuts and have to work 10-20 hours overtime a week to make ends meet
I bought my first house last week.
I pay my bills on time
15% of my weekly income goes into my retirement fund
But I am not affraid to work long hard hours to make a life for myself.
I believe in personal responsibility
I believe in our country helping out the worker, without unions if i get laid off I have the option of unemployment.
I have seen abuses of power within unions since I started in the construction business, and I believe that regular workers need protection against unions at times.
regardless everyone wants to make more money.
why cant they just work for it?

Clearly major wage restructuring needs to happen top to bottom. Let's keep in mind they are not going to survive doing things like they have been. It may be cold-hearted but if that means replacing the high paid line workers with lower paid ones than so be it. Also the management structure also needs to be streamlined and cuts need to be made where overlaps occur. Obviously no bonuses should ever be paid until they are making profits. Let's stop feeling sorry for these poor assembly workers who are making 100K a year. Look at your local newspaper and you will see that even the highest paid assembly jobs in your town are $15-$20 an hour. For the big three to survive they need to look at top to bottom wages and analyze what point they need to be at to be viable.

oh look a link to a union busting site.
KOAJ, after the big 3 go out of business what do you think toyota is then gonna pay its workers since it will have the monoply here in the U.S.A. and free to do whatever they want to do with wages?
My guess is that 48 per hour number will grop to below 15 in a very short time because these foreign jerks are going to believe they can pay people dirt cheap wages and get away with it.

I do agree though that management is 100% completely at fault in Detroit, but the reason is for giving in to the UAW's demands that they knew could not be sustained only while greasing their own pockets in return.
wow cd, why are UAW workers better people than Southerners? Aren't they all Americans?
You must understand that you are also saying that manufacturing workers that put together "cars" are way more important / productive / skilled than any other type of manufacturing in the world based on the Detroit 3 figures. There are skills in any kind of manfacturing, but they are more similar than disimilar.
