cd - each and every worker who works on a honda line or a ford or gm line is free to find employment elsewhere if they are not happy where they are

standard of living in huntsville alabama (where my honda was made) is much lower than it is in michigan or ohio...i would think $25/hr goes a lot further down there

this isnt the republicans doing anything its a japanese auto company who saw the failings or potential failings of the f/gm/dcx and built their US business in ways that would avoid the inevatable bankrupcty of detroit

 

KOAJ, You always say this and thats exactly what all republicans say and believe.  If you dont like the wage being paid then find a job elsewhere. Republicans and corporations want all jobs to be paid low wages, because then people wouldnt have a choice of seeking a job anywhere else.  They would be forced into taking a low paying job because they have no choice, they need to feed their families.     This is exactly what the down south right to work states have done to the people of those states.  They have brainwashed then for so many generations, they are just happy to have a job even if it means they cant afford nothing more then a trailer.

Face it KOAJ, you are a true believer in that the owner of a company should get 95 percent of the money while the workers get 5 percent.  If they dont like it they can find another job.

At some point in time this whole country is going to work like that when all the unions get completely busted out and wont be around anymore to defend people and get them a decent wage.  We will all become slave workers to business owners like you.  This day is coming, how long i dont know, but its coming and guys like you couldnt be more happy about it.

im not a big business owner, lets be clear but what i portray above is how the market works, in its freest sense. at some point, companies will pay workers more to attract better talent and a better work force and the rest of the market will have to respond likewise or they will soon have no workers

btw - are you listening to the Big 3 beg to the senate? you should. did you know it costs each of the Big 3 105k to lay off each worker

so when they are downsizing to cut costs they are actually increasing them...they are fucked! many of the senators have told them they need to get spot on with Honda of Indiana in terms of labor costs and productivity. the big 3 will burn through this cash in 6 months or less...if they get it

 

VERY WELL PUT  Thats exactly what am talking about.  The republicans wont be happy until there is all low paying jobs in this country that way people will be forced to work them because they have no other choice.  This has been the goal of republicans and corporations for years.  Its been the unions who have stopped this from happening.  All these companies like honda who KOAJ talks about, in time will have their workers working for peanuts.

the cost of labor is too great for the Big 3 to survive as is. even if they did survive, they need to match honda and toyota in labor costs to even stay competitive since their leadership is inept and there is an unreliable stigma associated with buying an American car

its not the unions fault, they negotiated a great deal. the problem is, those who sign the paychecks have no more money so they come to feed at the teet of government to help them through another 1-2 quarters tops yet they wont make any concessions and it seems that the man who wrote the legislation (Michigan senator) isnt demanding any...so they will be back begging for more in 6 months

there are over 7000 GM dealerships nationwide, 1500 toyota, 1000 honda...do you think there is too much capacity here?

cd - i love honda and will only buy honda. just bought one in august. they last 10+ years and overall have very little to no wear and tear problems. when i signed the papers to buy each honda ive bought, i have a feeling of security that i will not have to worry about transportation for the next 10 years. i dont get that with american designed autos

what happens when it costs ford, gm, chrysler more to produce autos then they can actually get for them in the open market?

we're much closer to that with the big 3 than we are with the japanese autos...thats scarier than everything else ive mentioned

Lastly all i keep hearing about is how American auto workers need to get in line with foreign auto workers pay.  Well maybe foreign auto workers need to start getting in line with American auto workers pay.

nothing to do with republicans...take the blinders off for a second. honda chose to build plants in the south to get away from the UAW. they chose to build in rural indiana and limit employment to get away from the UAW

they are successful and the model for all automakers for many reasons not just the anti-UAW stance

for the record, im not against unions...just unions who's deals threaten the viability of their company which is what the UAW does

if MLB has viability issues watch how fast i come down on the MLBPA

you think someone is fortunate to have their own business? like it was given to you and me? we work our balls off. did you pay for your own house? health care? retirement savings? why cant everyone else?

i dont think people should work for 10-15 bucks an hour unless they have to. if someone wants to make more money they can look anywhere for a job...monster, craigslist, linkedin, friends, old colleagues, etc. they are FREE to do so.
