The NFL isn't fixed. But your head should be if you believe it is.

If you watched the game you'd know that Fat Tony was making encrypted phone calls to the refs. I'm assuming you didn't watch it.

Interesting read for the proponents of "casinos don't care about sports wagering" spiel.  This is only for NEVADA.  Extrapolate worldwide to include online books and the worlds most popular sport, soccer.

    Yeah, sportsbook wagering is miniscule.

You just proved the point against games being fixed and Casinos taking sides on games.  SIMPLE MATH!!!!!!!

Sports wagering had one of its best months ever in October. There was $504.6 million wagered across the state of Nevada on sports. The majority of the wagers, $397.8 million, was on football. Sportsbooks won $33.6 million from sports betting in October.

    NOW DO THE MATH!!!!

$33.6 million in profit / $504.6 million in wagers = 6.6% profit margins!!!!!!!!!

Juice is typically 10% indicating that the casinos are actually taking more winning bets than losing.
So now explain how games are fixed!!!!!LMFAO

Here’s a look at how much casinos actually won in different games in October.

Slot Machines (including video poker): $572.2 million
    Blackjack: $85.42 million
    Baccarat: $79.13 million
    Sports: $33.60 million
    Craps: $34.41 million
    Roulette: $18.31 million
    Pai Gow Poker: $8.5 million
    Let It Ride: $3 million

It's not actually as simple as I laid it out as winning sides dont pay the juice so if all things were considered equal and 10% juice was used on even betting on equal sides across the board, the Casinos would have 1.6% advantage .  Still Laughable

Haha buddy, I was gonna point that out :)

Just a counter point.   Many folks like to point to the tiny percentage of profit but percentage can be misleading.  I could get a 100% raise and that sounds good, until you note that I'm currently making $4/hr and my raise is only $4.  OTOH, Bill Gates could make only .05% more this year than last year and that seems tiny, but in reality, that's more than most people will make in their lifetimes.  Shouldn't we really be looking at overall $$?

Dollars wise it's obliterating half the table games and roulette, it's nearly as profitable as craps, and is half of Baccarat and BJ.   Slots is in a category of it's own and will NEVER be threatened by ANY game but you STILL make money on the others even if it's not the cash cow that penny slots are.

Extrapolate 6.6% profit across world wide betting.  That's nothing to sneeze at I'd imagine.  I'm assuming several billion is wagered LEGALLY  yearly and probably another 35% illegally.  That 6.6% = beau coup bucks.

Also, to add, as a business, if you can INCREASE the number of revenue streams without affecting your current revenue streams, that's ALWAYS a wise decision.  In this instance, increasing sports revenue is a big positive for casinos cause that's one more pot of money for them.  Unless increased sports wagering somehow affected their profits on other streams like BJ, baccarat etc., I think they will ALWAYS find value in the sportsbook, especially if it not only "brings" in customers for other games, but on its own is highly profitable for the casino.  and extra 400 Mil a year (with a really positive outlook for growth) for Vegas is

That 6.6% = beau coup bucks.
some of that is true Buddy however there are many Casinos and sport spooks included In those numbers and when you break it down it's not really that huge a piece of the pie to go around.  Let's extrapolate some numbers

Lets assume the profit taken off of Football only gambling for October totals $26.25 Million.  I know there are 75 Casinos in Las Vegas alone, probably add 100 more if we are including all of Clark County.  Not sure how many Sportsbooks but for the sake of being more than fair and to make the numbers easy to work with lets assume there are only 26!!!!!
Now some of them are obviously taking much more action than others, but for the sake of argument lets assume all is equal.  So each book makes 1 million in October.  Now approx 14 games a week....4 weeks in October is 56 games in October.
So 1 Million divided by 56 games.........for a grand total of $17,857 profit per book, per game!!!
There is no fixing going on, lemme tell you that!!!!!!!!!!
You couldn't fix a peewee football game for that kind of dough.

This is the most hilarious retort I think I have ever read.  You think games are fixed and then make a 30 game challenge of which you say it will be over by the time you hit 13 games.  Well if games are fixed how does your talent of handicapping games work???  Hahahahaha.

Thats correct. It would take a good bit bit more. Which is why it probably happens by someone that bets on the games instead of booking.

"The NFL is fixed" isn't a sentence that means anything.

Maybe "corrupt" is the better term.  All giant businesses are corrupt.  It's just part of the culture.  Like politics.  Big deal.  Do you think big business owners and politicians are genuinely interested in the welfare of the common folk??  Capitalistic structures are made for one purpose, and it's the only way they can survive - to make more money today than they did yesterday.  Endless growth with no end point.  Whoever, whatever gets screwed/steamrolled along the way, that's just collateral damage, or really, necessary damage.  The rich feed on the poor.  The books feed on the small time degenerate gambler.

The Maras, the Rooneys, the Modells, Debartolos...just a couple examples of how the OWNERS of what we watch are/were closely tied to books/the mob/gambling.

The NFL is like the most watched league in the world and every play is scrutinized. It would make little sense to fix games in the NFL for that reason. If match fixing goes on it is likely to be in obscure leagues with much lower paid individuals involved playing/coaching/reffing. with such a large public betting base, the books will never lose much on the NFL. The money is so spread out.

If you were going to fix a game, why the hell would you pick Monday Night Football with the whole country watching?

That's just Vegas though, which is only a fraction of both US betting and even more minute compared to world wide betting.

    https://espn.go.com/chalk/story/_/id/13614240/research-shows-united-states-dominate-global-legalized-sports-betting-market

The above article states roughly 95 Billion is bet on American football per year.  Following your train of thought and using the following assumptions:

-25 big time online books that control 75% of the market share.
-280 total NFL/college games per month
    -6.6%

You'd get roughly an AVERAGE profit per game of $55K+ per book.  That's average of 280 games, which could be argued is too many per month.  I think it's reasonable to assume that the big games and/or primetime games garner 10-20x the betting vs. the average, non-televised game.  Now you'd be talking about the neighborhood of a million in profit per game, per BOOK (i.e. 20-25M TOTAL profit).

    Some additional perspective:

In the article I posted, that 95B is estimated for AMERICANS only and goes on to state that probably only 4% of that is bet legally (vegas sportsbooks, etc.) meaning roughly 91.2B is bet ILLEGALLY.

Using 6.6% profit margin, that means annual profit on 91.2B is about 6 BILLION DOLLARS.

Article further states that for comparison, the 32 NFL teams shared 7.2 Billion in revenue in 2014.

Las Vegas only accounts for 5% of wagers placed worldwide.

So talking about profit and margins in individual casinos is meaningless.

No it's not fixed...they're just dropping all those easy catches on accident...They're pros, yet they can't seem to catch a pass...

Was it a ghost that made Peyton fumble the ball in that game several years back against the Raiders? To set up the raiders on another 1st and goal, so they would cover the spread by a half point?

Because nobody touched the ball. But Peyton sure acted like they did. He flung his hands up in the air all wildly, and dropped the ball, right where the raiders could get it. Was so obviously done on purpose, i've never seen anything so blatent.

    1) What do you think "tanking" is?
    2) Why doesn't the NFL allow refs to speak to the media?
    3) Do you really think that so many refs making six-figure salaries suck SOOO bad at their jobs and all these "blown" calls are just blown calls?
    4) Did Tim Donaghy not basically blow the lid on game-fixing by the NBA? By instructing refs to call fouls on certasin players and immunize others--like MJ, LBJ, KD, etc.----in other words, don't take the stars off the floor. Isn't that game-fixing in a basic sense?

People, do you wonder why the world is going to shyt? It is because people see see the sun shining right outside their window, yet refuse to acknowledge it is daytime. The skeptics never debunk the eivdence. I have challenged openly anyone on this site to an open debate on this subject. No one has ever accepted. The offer still stands. I have done my research. Lots of it.

This same idiot who created this thread issued a cxhallenge stating that anyone who thought games were fixed should post a record of picks, as we should be able to predict outcomes of games. BETFRIENDS, YOU ARE AN IDIOT. YES, AN IDIOT.

You issue a challenge which is basically useless because no one outside of the biggest insiders know what games will be affected and how. These things tend to become clear during the game. NOW, IDIOT--HERE'S ONE FOR YOU. Since you do not believe games are fixed, and capping is so much more effective, LET'S SEE YOU POST YOUR PICKS EVERY WEEK, WITH A WINNING RECORD ABOVE 85%.

Since you are so sure no shadiness occurs, then your picks should be rock-solid and infallible, and FIX-.PROOF.

AGAIN, YOU ARE AN IDIOT. HOW ABOUT THIS. THINK YOU'RE SMART??? I CHALLENGE YOU PERSONALLY, BEFORE THE ENTIRE COVERS COMMUNITY, TO A DEBATE ON WHETHER GAMES ARE FIXED OR NOT. I EXPECT YOU TO HAVE THE SEMI-INTELLIGENCE TO UNDERSTAND THAT I LIKELY WON'T POST A CLIP OF THE ELLEN SHOW WHERE A GROUP OF REFS TEARFULLY CONFESS TO FIXING GAMES.

I WILL, HOWEVER, POST CREDIBLE EVIDENCE AND YOU AND OTHERS WILL HAVE TO USE YOUR BRAINS TO READ THE WRITING ON THE WALL.

PUT UP OR SHUT UP--AND STOP POSTING ABOUT SOMETHING YOU ARE ILL-EQUIPPED TO GRASP.

It may or may not be blatantly fixed....But in my 35 + years of gambling, I have seen hundreds of games that do make you shake your head and say wtf..? But overall, it's a fair game and there are arguments both ways...I have been on both sides..games I had zero business winning and games where a crazy coaches call or a flag makes a comfortable winner all day suddenly lose by a 1/2 pt..I could probably pay for a wedding in pushes...Bottom line: events occur  and they balance out in the end..It happens, and the reason I come back for more because it's fun as hell and addicting...This website is my downfall,..I can't figure out if it's run my books or handicappers..

If you think a billion dollar industry would risk it's worth so Vinny could pocket some millions you are wrong. Some of you seem to think every nfl game has a half a billion wagered on it and every penny of it goes to one side.
