    McCarthys biggest weakness last year was hiring his old friend Mike Nolan as D Coordinator. That guy has never had any success, yet keeps getting jobs. Amongst NFL coaches, the good ol' boy network is alive and well. Biggest off-season move Dallas made was getting rid of the D coaches and hiring Dan Quinn. The defense will be markedly better simply be the players knowing their assignments. That rarely happened last year. Drafting Micah Parsons was a steal, the kid will be a beast in this league, plus he will take snaps away from Jaylon Smith, who has no business being in the NFL. Of course he played over 90% of the snaps on D last year confused. Not only did Nolan suck as a DC, but he was clueless as to who should be on the field.

    For the Cowboys to be successful this year, they simply need to stay healthy. If Dak and both OT's play every game, Dallas will win the division going away.

    Good stuff Hugh! I would caution though that its not a given that Dak will hit the ground where he left off, though everyone seems to think so.peace_5

    Only way the Boys become relevant (again) - when the Jones family relinquishes ownership. Not happenin' EVER.

    Dang odb, post 13 feels like 5 months ago, I agree with the play. But if Fields takes over I think 7 or 8 wins is possible.

    Hugh, what was your opinion of Dalton, being the astute Cowboys fan that you are?

    Not my question to answer but I will anyways. At his best he was a poor man's Matt Stafford. I truly believe he is just an early season placeholder for Fields who will be a star until that horrible offensive line cripples him like the Bengals did to Joe Burrow last year. Matt Nagy is not a good football coach.

    "Matt Nagy is not a good football coach."

    Yup. He rode the coat tails of Vic Fangio, and even Chuck Pagano did a good job with that defensive unit.

    If you remember Trubisky's rookie year, he did fine throwing on the run, and scrambling for first downs. In his second year, Nagy put on the leash. Didn't let him scramble and tried to make him purely a pocket passer. It was a failure. Ironically Nagy has a saying, and it's written on his clipboard. "Be you" it says. Letting Trubisky be himself is 180 degrees from what he let him be.

    As backups go, Dalton is pretty good. Although it should be noted that there are not 32 quality starting QB's in the NFL ... and Dalton is a backup, or at least he should be. As Getty said, with a bad O-line, it wont matter who is under center.

    Unless something unforeseen happens, this will be Nagy's last year patrolling the sideline as a HC peace_5

     You do realise I've been a Dallas fan since the early 70's.  I dwell in reality, unlike you.

    Agree on Chalk , hate it when it comes to futures ..If I were betting anyone but the BILLS to win the division I'd probably take them ATS and ML vs the BILLS ...The PATS are catching 3.5 at home and 7 on the road at Buffalo ( guess that's just one way of doing it ) ...

    Agree dont want to see Trubiaky unless it's a blowout , but with Allen's reckless abandon for his physical health I could see Trubs starting 2-3 games ....

    @lbcake

     Now that you mention it, I do recall you being a Cowboys fan. As for the 8 - 9 record, I will respectfully disagree peace_5

    I believe they go 5-1 in the division, then need to win 5 of their remaining 11 games to get to 10 wins and first place in the division.

    Worth noting that La'el Collins has a neck stinger and hasn't practiced all week. The drop off from their starting Tackles to the backups is immense an_nailbiter

    With thefootballfootball_c1 wagering becoming more main stream i'm concerned a little, case in point. With 2 seconds left in the game and A&M up 41 - 10 Kent St. is going for a 24 yard fq which would have given them the cover. Tv guys are saying how this was not a meaning less kick for a whole lot of people and that the players knew it. Sure enough the kicker hit the upright dead on and misses.The reaction from alot of A&M players was telling.If it gets to the point that the players and coaches are influenced by the line i wonder if the door may open for some shenanigans. ( i needed that game an_arsed)

    @Biscuiteater1

     This has been happening on the college level for years. Coaches, players and refs at various times all seem to have a vested interest in "which team will cover the spread"

    Mostly it's the smaller conferences that have kids who grew up poor and have no chance of making it to the next level. It's got to be very tempting to make a few extra bucks by your team winning by 10 points instead of 17. I am not suggesting that its only the poorer kids doing it, merely that the temptation is greater for them.

    Meanwhile, I bet way more college games yesterday than I normally do. I don't know much about college, and don't bet on it every Saturday. All I can say is thank God I made mostly small wagers because even at that I got my ass kicked. I think I just straight tailed 3 different forum members, and all 3 got waxed. Just another reminder of why I rarely go into the mains peace_5
