 That has nothing to do with the line for game 2. That game is done and over with . They don’t make lines based off that. If you always went off that in betting you would be a broke dude and so would Vegas. 

So your hypothesis is that teams past performances and H2H matchup results have nothing to do with the lines set by Books?  Pls elaborate on what the Books set lines by in your world...

 The lines are based for numbers. You don’t bet specially in hockey how the team performs last game because you get out played all game and still win the game it happens a lot in sports betting. Look at basketball playoffs right now. The money coming in on Carolina might be heavy. They are the better team on paper and are playing well right now . The line has little to do with how the perform the game before because it’s a new game new day and the players can play different from day to day. 

Line are based off numbers, home court, injury’s, etc. Really has nothing to do with how they played last game. Because even though Carolina outplayed wash all game long. Wash was winning the whole game until that turnover. And still had a chance to win only with 14 shots on goal. You really don’t know how a team will come out and play that day. I just think in my bet it’s my formula and on top of that if wash goes down 2-0 it’s going to be hard to win in Carolina. So I think there is heavy money on Carolina because of how they played last game . Money makes the line move too I forgot the main one. 

People love betting favorites and they have been good this year. But it’s kinda changing right now to the underdogs winning games. 

So these "numbers" you speak of, they are not created by any of the previous games those teams played?   Where do they make the numbers from?  

Maybe the Books use imaginary numbers like the square root of negative one or the number eleventeen.  If those two numbers are added together, and we multiply it by Pi, we get a line of Caps +140... I think we're on to something here...

 Dude to be honest no one knows how they truly get the numbers but they are always spot on . In my opinion they don’t go off last game played to get the line. If the caps play bad again and maybe this time get the win . So we will have to see. I bet underdogs if I lose on to the next game. Good luck my guy

 Just having some fun with you White - your statements about the current line not having anything to do with last game played was just nonsensical.  Betting is like investing in stocks - a Company's past performance is very much relevant to whether or not you buy their stock for future growth.  Does it guarantee it?  Nope.  But, I think we'd all rather buy stock in a Company that has demonstrated financial success over a period of time, versus a company that has never shown a profit.

Hockey teams are no different - Carolina pretty much dominated the Devils in an easy series, and Washington handled Montreal with ease, so when game 1 is so lopsided, and a Road team dominates the Home team as they did, that is a useful piece of data.  Do I bet Canes because of that?  No.  That's called "Recency Bias", and a lot of people fall into that trap.  Books take advantage of that by setting a Carolina line at -150 to try and entice all those who have the recency bias, with a line that is not too expensive, and brings in Carolina action until the Caps get to a Dog ML that starts to draw lots of action the other way.  

So they set the lines factoring everything that will get them to a balanced state of bets and Vig where they maximize profits regardless of who wins.  Recency Bias from the last game played is absolutely 100% factored into setting the next game's line.

 This is all you had to say . It’s a discussion . You took the time out to say things how you feel the lines are made unlike what you said earlier. I don’t totally agree with you . Because if the lines are based off how they played last game. Look at Florida and the Leafs last night. The line was so high with Florida and leaf’s other goalie in net . And the leafs are healthier and outplayed the defending champs in game but yet game two the line was set so high for Florida and Toronto came out and played just like how they played game one. So why wasn’t the line closer. Maybe the goalie change. But not how the played in game 1. 

The line was set high because they were defending changes and thought the series would be tied 1-1
