like I said in P_B's thread, it's "The NBAing of the NHL". tonight penalties were 7 for 14 minutes to Senators, 3 for 6 minutes to Penguins. NOT suprising with a former NBA New York lawyers. the guy is cut out of the same cloth as David Stern

Home teams these playoffs are now 35-18. The amount of minor penalties called against the road teams as opposed to the home teams these playoffs is quite alarming from the games I have checked through, but it's more when they are called that is alarming. There is no logical reason for home teams to be averaging 6 to 10 more minutes of power play time per game than the visiting teams. We are in an era of very equal parity and most of the hockey is very even so it makes no sense, especially in crucial hockey games and most of the time in very crucial situations ie, the 2 late phantom calls against the canucks in game 4 in san jose to allow the sharks to tie it and then win it. Then the weak call last night very late allowing the kings to tie it at home against san jose.
It can all be written off as consistent coincidences over and over and that's fine, to each their own, but all this is consistently favoring home teams and to a degree certain teams in certain regions or with star status it would seem.
Perhaps fan related and money driven as Ovechkin suggested, due to the lockout and the league being scared of losing any of it's fanbase? Who knows but whatever the reason or coincidence, there has been a ton of questionable/shady calls these playoffs and almost all of them have favored the home teams.
That caps/rangers series was hilarious. Games in washington, the caps got a few powerplays at crucial times like in overtimes and in new york apparently the rangers pretty much never committed an infraction during the course of 3 home games. A little odd to say the least. Game 6 in new york was disgusting from a fairness sandpoint. The caps flat out got jacked by the stripes in that game and it was sad to watch as an unbiased fan for that game.
All this is however leading to masses of cheering, raucus, happy fans who are buying tons of merchandise and creating amazing atmospheres for television as the home arenas go berzerk with crazy endings filled with goals and victories late for the home sides.
People can call it all coincidence, that's fine, but it all seems a little odd and yes Rink we know how filthy, crooked David Stern is and he was/is Uncle Garys mentor.
Both, dirty, crooked, pieces of pure sh!t. Whether they are putting their hands on anything to help support their billion dollar businesses, who knows. I mean they could both be honest "new york" lawyers who don't care about the money and only about integrity. Ofcourse that would make them the only 2 on earth of their kind

I hope thats not the case for the sport I loved growing up. Although there always was a lot of politics even at novice levels. Doesn't teach a guy good lessons.

There are no fixes. There are however vested interests from billion dollar sports industries. Those industries have employees on and off the ice making calls or often more importantly not making calls that very easily can sway any game one way or the other in a positive financial manner for the industry in question. One simple call or non call can go a long way towards accomplishing this. When for example a team playing at home gets 5 full powerplay opportunities, including almost 2 full minutes of 5 on 3 powerplay,(many questionable calls), and the visiting team who happen to have the leagues number one powerplay don't get a single powerplay the entire game, during a very evenly played game, and the home team wins that game 1-0, it is safe to say the leagues striped officials played a large role in influencing the final outcome of that game whether you deem it in fairness or not.
The above scenario is exactly what happened in game 6 of the caps/rangers series in new york to force a game 7.
Just laying out some facts. I watched that game though and to me it had hand prints all over it. Just my opinion.

will be "very interesting" to see what happens game 3 @ San Hoser. if THEY get 2-1 penalty calls OR late calls IF behind like LA in game 2, you KNOW something is "fishy"
